help with finding 01 numbers to replace 08 numbers
Aug 18th, 2006 at 9:35am

Hi all

I am signed upto Home call ..and use their FREE local/ uk package

08 numbers are though charged at 3p plus per minute.........and directory enquireies are not forth comming in giving normal 01 numbers out instead of 08 numbers

how do I find out what the proper numbers are to these companies who are now insisting on using 08 numbers and keeping you hanging on a good 30 mins for the priviledge.as my phone bill now is climbing at a rate of knots?  Shocked  Cry

That's what this site is all about!

Use the 'Find an Alternmative' facility and you may be lucky but, as you'll see as you explore others threads, a bit of detective work (e.g. Google) often proves fruitful as well.

The basic rule (which nearly all newcomers overlook either deliberately or through lazyness) is read the 'How To' advice before asking.

Welcome safron,

Generally it's better to search for alternative geographical numbers by company name rather than 084x/087x number.

As well as the link provided by Heinz, there are a few others you may want to check out like:-

General Info about posting & requesting assistance finding a geographical number
Guide to finding geographical numbers (as posted by Heinz)

Feel free to read some posts and any stickies (under the heading Important Topics).

Another site (in case you're not already aware) is Money Saving Expert (aka MSE) which actually sponsors this site.  Over at MSE, they discuss more ways of saving money and not just by ringing geographicals instead of 08x numbers.  Things like credit cards, utility bills, insurance, etc are discussed.

If you do, unfortunately, have to ring an 08x number then check out MSE's Call Checker.

If you have any queries then let us know.
