From 1st October 2006, the comparisons (for BT Together customers) will be:

0845

Weekdays   
BT - 3p connection + (was 3p/min & subject to 5½p minimum call charge)
18185 – 4p connection +

Evenings
BT – 3p connection + (was 1p/min & subject to 5½p minimum call charge)
18185 – 4p connection +

Weekends   
BT – 3p connection + (was 1p/min & subject to 5½p minimum call charge)
18185 – 4p connection +


0870

Weekdays
BT - 3p connection + (was 7.51p/min & subject to 5½p minimum call charge)
18185 – 4p connection +

Evenings   
BT – 3p connection + (was 3.75p/min & subject to 5½p minimum call charge)
18185 – 4p connection +

Weekends   
BT – 3p connection + (was 1½p/min & subject to 5½p minimum call charge)
18185 – 4p connection +

I think I'll be using 18185 for all 0845 and 0870 calls (blow the occasional 1p extra connection charge).

Surprisingly 18185 have not increased the charge of a weekday 0870 call using their 08081 703703 number - this is still shown as being 4p a minute - but don't hold your breath.

Ouch 5p a minute to call 0870 minimum now + 4p connection.  Still can hardly blame them as I can't believe they were making any money at the old 4p per minute price since some companies running 0870 numbers actually receive 4p per minute.  I think under the old pricing model they must have assumed people would also use them for 0870 in evening or weekend when they would have made more money - which of course almost nobody did as their new time banded charges show.

Looks like I'm going to work even harder to never call 0870 now.   Will always have to write an email instead and then email the CEO if customer service don't reply.
