Hi Mark

Perhaps you can give more information:
  • Is this someone's direct room number or do you dial this number and then, when the call is answered, you dial the room extension number?
  • What company provides the system? For example, Dog n Bone Zone and Keycom/Keytalk are two university phone names I know of. Is there a website for this service?
  • What is the STD area code that the accommodation resides in?
  • Do you have any idea how many rooms have these numbers in?

Sorry for not giving enough info
The number is a central number for all the Halls of Residence at UCLan, you then have to dial an extension number to get the room you want.  There are several hundred rooms I guess.  I have no idea who provides the service if it's not UCLan themselves.  The university is in Preston, STD 01772

The university website only publishes the 0870 number for the halls though there are geographic numbers for other services.  From reading the documents it seem that the 0870 is a gateway to a VPN.  Even the overseas access number is given as +44 870 7508281

Thanks for the prompt response & I hope this info helps.

Mark

The words 'needle' and 'haystack' spring to mind.

If there is an underlying geographical number, and I'm not convinced that there has to be, then it could be any number.

In some cases for systems that have separate 0870 numbers for each room we have worked out what the geographical numbers will be.

Is there a website then? Where are the details on the UCLan site?

I think that you may have to accept that your mobile may be a better point of contact.

I'll stick to the mobile for now.  If I do find out a real number I'll be sure to post it.

Thanks

FWIW
I found out the geographic number by the simple expedient of calling a mobile from the room phone (Doh!)

it is 01772 220014

But it doesn't help as this number does not accept incoming calls.

It may help.  It could be that all outgoing numbers have that Caller display number on it (it costs extra to have another number displayed instead).

You could try ringing a few numbers nearby like 01772 220 01x.

01772 22 is allocated to Your Communications.

0870 750 is also allocated to Your Communications.

From 01772 220010:

10 Out of service
11 Out of service
12 does not accept calls
13 *** I think this is what you're after! ***  Grin
14 does not accept calls
15 Out of service
16 Out of service

The number is 01772 220013   Wink

Hi Guys,

I'm sorry to drag up an old thread, but I thought it was the best solution.

UClan's student phone network went down last weekend, and though it's back up again not, the only the 0870 number works.  I've run through the different options given in this thread but I none of them work, all give either number barred or number not in use.

Does anyone know what the new number is?

All help gratefully appreciated, I live in halls, and it's costing my boyfriend and me a fortune to talk to each other.

The number (220014) is not recognised.  Cry

220012 and 220014 still do not accept incoming calls, so perhaps they have been left as they are and the incoming one has been moved. Perhaps they have changed it because some people know what it is.  Cry

I think that it will be another 01772 22xxxx number. This is because we've established that it was on a number prefix which is allocated to Your Communications.

I am trying some numbers and I've come across a couple of numbers that have NGNs pointed to them, like Lancashire Highways. I've added them to the database.

Thank you so much.  I really appreciate your help - you've just made my day!

I emailed the database on friday to let them know the old one didn't work anymore, so it may need updating?

I've just done it!  Wink

If they changed it because it was found out, then don't hang your hat on it staying the same. If it does change, don't email anyone, post on this thread.  Smiley
