U-Want Internet (part of Unite Group Plc)

They don't appear to list any address so its hard to find a geographical number for them.

A search of BT, 192 and Internet Archive wasn't helpful.

They are apart of the The UNITE Group plc which also do Student Accomodation.  Even their Student Accomodation site doesn't give the h/o address (that I could see).

A Companies House check reveals it is likely:-

THE UNITE GROUP PLC
THE CORE
40 ST THOMAS STREET
BRISTOL
BS1 6JZ
Company No. 03199160

but a 192.com search reveals:

THE UNITE GROUP PLC
103 TEMPLE STREET
BRISTOL
AVON
BS1 6EN
0117 907 8100

UNITE - 0845 111 0021

Hello all,

Firstly, all entries relating to the UNITE Group (and the U-Broadband) in the database no longer work. I attempted to use the geographic alternative to 0845 111 0021 today, and it doesn't work. Upon trying the others, I also found that they no longer work. The failing numbers are 0117 9156095 (UNITE Helpdesk, 0845 111 0021), 0117 9078136 (U-Want Broadband, 0870 242 0019) and 0117 9156001 (UNITE Head Office - although I can find no reference to this number anywhere).

I believe that these numbers were submitted to the database before they moved to their present location - The CORE, 40 St Thomas St, Bristol, BS1 6JZ (http://www.unite-group.co.uk/data/home/Contacts/default.aspx). The number for the (I presume) switchboard is provided as 0117 302 7000. I can only assume that they own most, if not all, of this block of numbers. The fax number is provided as 0117 302 7400.

Searching Google for "UNITE"+0117+302 provides a few numbers:
7000 - Switchboard (I assume - website says can be used out of hours)
7004 - Chief Financial Officer and Chief Executive (?)
7018 - Tabitha Aldrich-Smith, Press Office Enquiries
7400 - Fax

Does anybody have any time on their hands to try a few numbers?

Hello, Feed the Company info into 192.com......Its easier to list phone  no`s they hav`nt got.
3 or 4 address `s and all the numbers cross all the company names. 36 i think.
Multi-talanted is the word that springs to mind.
Have fun, Rod.

Yes, they have a lot of different business operations (all of them located at The Core, 40 St Thomas Street). Two numbers come up - 0117 907 8100 and 0117 302 7000 (excluding the 0845 and 020 number). 907 8100 says that the number has changed to 302 7000. I haven't yet managed to find any other numbers within the 302 7xxx range.

Hello, one of the Unite Group numbers: 0117 907 8100(TelecomPlc) now asks you to redial on 0117 302 7000.
There are other address`s listed apart from St. Thomas St.

I'd suggest calling the switchboard (0117 302 7000) but it'll probably be closed now. All UNITE's number in Bristol are 0117 302 7xxx so you might be able to try a few other "memorable" numbers - 7100, 7200, 7300 (not 7400 as that is their fax number).

Actually, their press office contacts page suggests that their main number (0117 302 7000) can be used "out of hours" so it is possible that they could direct you to the Control Room if need be.

Hi,

Hopefully I can help clear up the confusion a little,

For customers on site each building will have a Mobile number for the member of staff on duty, as well as a local office number - most queries can be dealt with on site without the need to call head office, and with the benifit of local knowledge. If you live in a Unite property ask your local staff who will be able to provide these contact details.

The 0117 3027499 control room number has been withdrawn due to relocation as it is an emergency number and can't be diverted if the switch at The Core goes down. The only number now for emergencies, including for properties to dial is 0845 111 0021.

0117 3027000 is the main switchboard number for head office general enquiries and will be able to put you through to any property as well as anyone at The Core you may need to speak to.

The entry U-Want Internet  0870 2420019    01275 793404  is valid (i've just checked again) and the alternative is something that has been made aware to everyone, although for some reason it is not on the website. You can also use the UGO-Board freephone (usually in common room) to call the helpdesk for free (and national rail enquiries and traveline which is quite useful).

Other than those for specific properties and personal direct dial numbers, all the other general numbers sound to me to be old, so can probably be deleted.

Hope that helps,

Thank you for your comprehensive reply. I can only presume that you work for Unite and hence your vast knowledge of these things. Do you know if Unite plan to offer an 03 number for contact to their emergency control room? Obviously most students will have mobile phones and it is expensive for them to call an 0845 number should they need to (of course, I realise that they should contact their local staff first if possible).

No problem,

I don't know if there is, but do personally agree that it could be a good way of providing a number which is inclusive from mobiles but still not reliant on a switch at head office, as 03 becomes more common place I guess companies will be more willing to use 03, particuarly as the original aim of local rate numbers is very similar.

I do work for Unite but am not responsible for the control room so can't really comment further, the cost from mobiles is something that I have already mentioned, it might be worth emailing and suggesting it yourself though if you are a customer that needs to call the control room.

Thanks,

Do you have the contact details for someone who deals with this specifically, or should I just email Unite in general?

Right, I emailed the general Unite info email address regarding their use of an 0845 number, and suggesting that they could use an 03 number instead (which would be cheaper for students to call than the 0845 number). As of the time of writing, I have not received a response from Unite.

If anyone can suggest someone I could contact directly within Unite, I'll gladly follow it up with them.
