Oct 4^th, 2006 at 2:07am Cheaptalk UK are offering landline to UK mobile calls for just 3p a minute via an 0844 number. This is a bargain price however I have not yet tried it. You can always check the cheapest way to call any type of number at http://callchecker.moneysavingexpert.com/
It always seems to be right up to date.

If you are using an 0844 number, the worst that can happen is you won't get through to the desired number, or that the line is bad. You won't find you are being charged a fortune. You might like to check the cost of calls to the number with your phone provider, but calls to an 0844 599 number on BT, for example, always cost 3p/min (+3p set-up fee), so you never have to worry about paying more.

If this reads right, then if you run out of Xnet mins on O2, you could dial cheapchat, and use them to connect for a lower cost that dialling the mobile directly.

I was just asking if you actually know as a fact that the number has stopped working. If you don't know, I don't expect you to call it especially.

These dial-though numbers don't always just stop working. The old ones keep going even if new ones are advertised. Also, the same numbers sometimes appear on different websites under different brand names.

Martin did say that he did not expect it to last long and he was spot on. I'm going back to using 18185 at 5p a minute (weekdays)

I am fully aware of that thank you. The number still works and when you ring it and try to dial a UK Mobile it tells you to ring the premium number.

More likely it's because the initial promotional period is over, and they never intended to make a loss by letting you ring European mobiles for 3p a minute indefinitely

I agree with Andy9.

That's why I've been wary about using such providers as its impossible for them to sustain these prices as it costs them a lot more money to carry the call than they are charging us consumers hence why they generally are only short-term offers.

I'd personally stick with 18185 who have kept their prices stable.
