Hi Ash,
I've added a link to the other thread for your university. That number is an 'auto-attendant', which means you dial the number then input the extension number when it answers. Yours is a direct number, so it's slightly different. We stand a much greater chance of finding the alternative.
However, there isn't a lot to go on in your original post. Who provides the phone service? Is it Dog n Bone Zone, Keytalk/Keycom or something else? A link to the provider's website is useful. Which halls campus is this for?
From the information supplied, 0870 116 numbers are allocated to
Pipemedia Ltd, now
Legend Communications Plc, part of
Thus Plc. This prefix is dated 12/2000.
Pipemedia have one prefix in Edinburgh 0131 251 dated 04/2005. It's quite new, but you could try 0131 251 followed by the last four internal extension digits.
Note that if the last few digits of the internal extension number and 0870 a different, the geographical number is
usually related to the internal extension number. What is the internal extension number for your room, with the last two digits **ed out? Also, are these two digits the same as the last two digits of the 0870?
One last thing. If you do find the number, please please please let us know what it is and how it relates to the extension number and/or 0870 number. There have been several university requests of late where we have helped people find the numbers, but they've failed to divulge how exactly to work it out. This is so others who want their numbers don't have to try lots of different combinations like the requestor had to.
