I have just emailed Waterstone's about the 0870 number being quoted as:
Quote:
Calls cost 6.7p per minute with BT and most other phone companies, but can vary, especially with mobile providers

Presumably the price is exclusive of VAT.

Yes, 6.7p is the old BT 'undiscounted' rate before VAT.  Add 17.5% and it comes to 7.875p (7.9p).

BT Together subscribers now pay 3p connection plus 7p/minute peak.

AFAIAA, only the few on the Light User Scheme still pay the 7.9p/minute rate.

I emailed Waterstones a month ago about this and received a response from Kathryn Dobson, Online Customer Service Manager, acknowledging receipt and saying that it would be looked into. I have heard nothing back since and have emailed a couple of times asking about what is happening. I have had no response and it is still misleading.

I've just received a reply from from Ms Dobson. She passed it on to Waterstone's customer service centre providers who have responded with a copy of BT's price list and concur that it is indeed quoted exc VAT. It is still like that, so I expect them to amend it soon.

The email also reveals something else which may help us to track down the 01/02 alternative number. The email I received was sent to Ms Dobson from a @bertrams.com email address. A check of www.bertrams.com reveals it to be Bertram Books:

Bertram Group Ltd
(Registered in England, number 3682165)
1 Broadland Business Park
Norwich
NR7 0WF

Now, if you go back to Waterstones' contact page, below the Brentford address it says "correspondence only, no returns to this address please".

Go to the returns page and it gives another address:

Waterstone's Returns Dept
PO Box 3325
Norwich
NR7 7FR

A Norwich address which is similar (NR7) to Bertram's.

Some contact numbers for Bertram Books are here. Looks like they love £0870 as there are what appear to be direct numbers for individuals which are 0870 429 6xxx.  Lips Sealed

There is a freephone number for orders and customer services: 0800 333344

This is given in our database as an alternative for Guardian Books.
