I telephoned DVLA on 08702400010 as it was "out of working hours". A friend had left for Spain leaving his licence behind so would I contact DVLA to ask them to fax across a copy. They wouldnt - quoting data protection - ok no problem with that but they then suggested I contacted their dept dealing with these matters on 09061393837 - has this happened to anyone else? I think its totally outrageous.

The DVLA are utterly shameless NGN number ripoff merchants who continually ignore all guidance on their appropriate use from the government's own Central Office of Information - www.coi.gov.uk/ccg/

Can I suggest you write to your MP using the www.writetothem.com website and also ask him/her to sign the Parliamentary Early Day Motion condemning the innappropriate use of 0870 numbers (and therefore also by implication the even worse 09 numbers) by government departments that over 60 MPS have already signed. Of course perhaps your MP is one of those who have already signed the motion.

RodneyRichardson Newbie Offline Posts: 1	Re: DVLA Reply #2 - Jun 21^st, 2010 at 4:06pm Looking on the main DVLA website (http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/contactus/drivers_enquiries.aspx) gave me the following: Telephone: 0300 790 6801 Fax: 0300 123 0784 +44 (0)1792 786 369 (Drivers Abroad) I was easily able to give temporary permission for a car hire company to access my records (after listening to a long list of options).

Calls to 03 numbers from mobiles and landlines cost no more than a 01/02 call. So if you have inclusive minutes, then they apply for 03 calls. Or, if you are charged 10 pence per minute for 01/02 calls, then it will cost 10 pence per minute for a 03 call.

In essence, they are geographic-charged non-geographic numbers.
