I received letters for Intrum Justitia claiming I owed money to a now defunct DVD seller... Brittania Music and Film. I immediately rang the number asking for clarification and suspecting a scam. I was told the matter would be referred back to the original company. I received a second letter one month later for IJ which now added a penalty charge of £12.50 to my mysterious debt. Again I called them immediately but this time was answered with threatening demands for payments... my credit rating would suffer if I did not pay by 2pm that very day. I attempted to be friendly and sensible but was informed that I wasn't taking the matter seriously enough. I mentioned I had never heard of the company and was reluctant to pay anything to someone I didn't know. The operator suggested I looked them up on the internet which I then did. Many people were in my situation... alarmed or bemused by their new found debt. So again I rang IJ, announced I was recording the call, (which I was), and expressed my doubts. I was then told that the "debt" would be written off! That I hope is that, but I remain cautious. But if you find yourself in a similar situation, hopefully the matter will be as easily resolved
