The website www.0870advice.com has a poll asking its readers what option should be chosen to replace 0870 when the new regulations come in.

Readers can contribute their vote for 0800, 0871, 0844 etc by clicking here .

You will note that apart from the 49% who have voted "Don't Know" 17% have voted for going to 0871 compared to only 6% for moving back to Geographic Numbers. Cry

I naturally voted for moving back to geographic numbers as 0370 seems to merely be an opportunity for NGN salesmen to ripoff businesses instead of consumers.  Having said that if 0800 numbers are available for 2p per minute to the call receipient then surely 0370 can be offered to them for 1p per minute or less, especially if the call volumes are large.

Also once they have to pay for 0370 hopefully businesses might then properly investigate whether they actually need these so called added value telecoms services.

Well, since your last post, Geographical numbers has taken the lead.  I also voted for them.

However, 0871 is not too far behind, and seeing as it's a poll for businesses, rather than consumers, then most of the votes for geographical calls may have been made from people on this site, rather than the businesses involved.

Therefore, it is worrying that most companies who have already made up their mind, want to move to 0871, because they want to keep their revenue share.

Surely if they wanted advanced features but not pay for the privilege, they would opt for 0845, or if they wanted advanced features, but didn't want to pay as much as 0800 they would opt for an 03 number, but instead they want 0871, and make people pay more.

I think the numbers may have been tweaked to reflect the desired outcome.

To be fair to them, perhaps only those who actually have an 0870 number should vote. I have the impression that this includes quite a lot of the contributors to this site.

Apparently there are 19 votes to go back to geographic numbers, so if this was in the lead last week, there couldn't have been many votes overall
