Ranger 400 Problems
Feb 10th, 2007 at 10:38am

Hi I don't know if anyone can help as I really need to get this kit set up for the weekend as I am installing 40 miles from where I live and Monday is too late.  I have recieved instructions to enter the following:

* * * 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 * 3 on the LCD of the handset.  Then press the [handset button].  I am informed the telephone will then dial out, but mine dose not seem to.  I am then told to wait 4 seconds and press the [handset button] again.  Well it just switches the phone off which to my mind makes perfect sense.  If I leave everything after pressing the [hanset button] just the once, i eventually get the message 'please hang up and try again'.  Any ideas on what i am doing wrong.

regards

Darryl

I don't think you were doing anything wrong.

I installed a Ranger 400 system yesterday and, after setting up my new routing table online on CW Client and saving it to Orchid's server, I pressed the handset button and keyed in ***00000000*3 and waited.

The handset did not appear to dial (I didn't hear any tones) but I was not worried about that because I'd read in the pdf file:
Quote:
The DECT programming command is local to the base station rather than to line, so to speak, so don't worry about any BT automated response you may receive or not hearing the tones.

I pressed the handset button again to 'hang up' (as per the instructions) and noted that  the red light on the base station began to flash slowly.  I waited - because I'd read in the pdf file that:
Quote:
Your products red LED should start to flash steadily after a few moments, indicating that it's in call home mode and contacting our management platform.

The download should take between 60 and 90 seconds but please leave for at least 5 minutes before testing.

When the red light stopped flashing after about two minutes, I logged back into my CW Client account and checked my unit's 'Last Contact' date and time - and found it to be approximately the time I began the process.

To be certain, I made a few test calls:

1.  My program specifies 09 numbers are barred so I tried dialling one - and found the dial tone remained and dialling was impossible.

2.  My program specifies use of 18185 for weekday 6am to 6pm UK 01/02 calls, so I made one using the STD code and a local one without the STD code - both succeeded and I heard the tariff announcement each time as expected.

3.  My program specifies 'no routing' after 6pm for UK 01/02 calls so I waited until 6pm and made another UK 01/02 call - no tariff announcement so, clearly, no routing.

4.  My program specifies use of 18185 at all times for calls to UK mobiles (077, 078 and 079 numbers) but calls to 070 personal numbers are barred.  I tried dialling 070 - and the dial tone remained.  I tried dialling 078 - and heard the tones of eight numbers (18185078) being dialled.

I got bored then - but was happy that the forced call home had been successful and that my program had been downloaded correctly.

As always thank you.  Yes got it working and your posting explains it exactly the procedure,  I was up against it time wise, but my mother managed to get it working with me passing instructions down the phone.  I was unable to do so whilst the handset was at my home and it may have something to do with the fact I didn't read the PDF

There is a phrase that is sometimes applicable.
R.T.F.M    Read The F (insert appropriate word) Manual.

Either that or give it to a 5 year old kid to sort out.
