Canon Technical Helpline
Feb 22nd, 2007 at 11:45am

Would be extremely grateful if someone could help me with a geographical number for 0870 5143723 which is Canon's Technical Helpline.

I've tried the number given in the listings here of 020 8731 4100 but was told they weren't the technical helpline and I must call 0870 5143723 and go for Option 4  Sad

As I'm likely to be on for a while I don't want to be paying 7.91p per min!

The database is wrong. The geographical number given is not the equivalent of 08705 143 723. When I tried it, it was always engaged.

Please could someone remove the entry from the database, or edit it so that it doesn't claim to be for the technical helpdesk?

I just had a look at the internet archive. In 1998, Canon's website gave the following:
Photo Products: 0181 459 1266 (so today would be 020 8459 1266)
Other Products: 0500 246 246 (freephone)

In 1999, they introduced their technical helpline rip-off number, 0990 143 723 (0990 became 08705 the following year).

In 2000, a new number for photo products appeared: 020 8451 3336
In 2001, this changed to 0870 241 2161.

Today, their fax number is 020 8731 4139. So it might be worth trying numbers in the range 020 8731 41**. Could someone with inclusive evening calls try these, and the numbers given above?

I've removed the entry. The number is now unobtainable.

Those numbers jrawle mentions:

020 84591266 Fax
0500 246 246 Recording saying that it's not in use
020 84513336 Rings, no answer

I was given 01737 220000 as Canon's number by my local Jessops. When I tried it today, they said I needed to call the helpline number, and proceeded to give me 020 8731 4100! I tried it, and it was engaged as before. So I tried again half a minute later, and got straight through to someone at technical support, no queueing or anything! Could this number be one of the lines that is pointed to by the 0870 number and the queueing system?

So while this geographical number isn't a direct equivalent, it does go through to the right department. It just could take a lot of retries at busy times (last time it was in the afternoon, just before they closed).

I just checked, and it says they (the 0870 number) are now open until 5:30pm. I'm sure it said 5pm last week. You should bear that in mind before trying the geographical number.

This number has been submitted again for inclusion in the database. It now rings out unanswered.

Canon (the copier people)

I have called both numbers given in the "unverified" listings, and can confirm that both 028-9072 7505 and 08000 353535 (or 0800 035 3535 if you prefer) reach their main call centre.

This is really only for service for contract customers, but they will often be able to help with other things as well, or put you through to the right place.

I'm told by someone who works for Canon that they will be outsourcing their call centre overseas (boo hiss) in a couple of months, but all telephone numbers are expected to remain as they are.

Thanks for posting about this. I have updated the listings to reflect it.  Smiley

An amendment to the above; the cheapskates at Canon have now removed the 028- number, it now gives you a recording telling you to dial 0844.

The 0800 number still works, as does the switchboard line on 028-9072 7500. Ask for service or fault reporting, you will be told the 0844 number, but when I told the nice lady who answered I was having trouble dialling it and asked if she could put me though, she did without question.

I always insist that I am unable to dial 08 and 09 numbers as they are premium rate numbers and they are barred from my phone.

I all instances I have either been connected or given an e mail address.

Thanks for updating us with this. I've removed the 7505 number and replaced it with 7500 with a note to say that it is switchboard and that callers will have to ask to be put through.
