Aaarghhh... annoying sales calls
Mar 30th, 2007 at 2:41pm

Another 0845/0870 scam... (in my own view)

Despite being registered with TPS, I keep getting sales calls from an 0800 number (0800 019 1773) which states:

"You have been contacted by "Excel Contact Centres", and you were not available when we called. We are working on behalf of a client who wished us to speak with you regarding an offer or service they provide.  We do not need to speak with you at this time, and we will call you back at a future date.  If you would prefer us not to call you, then let us know by calling 0845 130 7252.  Thank you for calling."

The calls are so frequent and annoying I bet half the people do call the 0845 number.

Why can't they just have an option on that 0800 number to press an option to stop the calls there and then?  Why give an 0845 number, to ask them to stop calling me? Why should I have pay to ask them to stop, when I've already asked them to do that by registering with TPS?

I've had a similar call which I suspect is a way of getting round my TPS registration. A guy rang and asked me to ring back on 0800 0517733.

I'm pretty sure it's a scam, so I haven't rung back but it would be interesting if someone can confirm my suspicions.

My first post - hope I have selected correct section!

My wife and I are being hounded morning, noon and night (literally) by 08701 242495 which is clearly a computer as no human being is there when it is answered and it never leaves a message on the answering machine.

Can't find it anywhere on 'say no to 0870' and naturally on a point of principle would never call an 0871 number!

Any help to trace it and/or stop it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dave, for the link.

Today, another one has started. This time 08002 585510.

Could it be the same source?

After getting a ton of calls from the same number that dialed via a dialer, or pc software, I did a bit searching around and found this forum.

The link Dave posted provides all the 'real' contact info for this 'company'. I called their official number (01294 225300) and spoke to a couple of people. They were very quick to remove me from the database as soon as I mentioned I was going to officially complain about the issue.

They said it would take 24hrs to be removed from their database. If for any reason they call back again, go straight back to the number on the site and warn them not to contact you any more, followed by a written letter. Their official contact address is:

Excell Contact Centres Complaints Dept
Unit B9
4 Symington Place
Riverside Business Park
Irvine
Ayrshire KA11 5DE
Scotland

It's pretty damn annoying to have these 'companies' contact you without your consent, so if anyone else is experiencing similar problems - track down their official contact details and go about it in a firm approach and 9/10 times they will stop bugging you.

Unwanted sales calls

I've had a couple of calls from a call centre in Scotland, one of which was so aggressive in the sales technique I ended up in tears. I had another call today which I didn't answer. I put the number 0800 019 1773 into google and whaddayaknow!
SayNo has come up trumps again  Smiley I found a whole thread from April on this and other companies. I called their geographical number 01294 225300 and made a complaint, saying the next time they call me they will be getting a solicitor's letter. They are going to listen back to the call. Hope they feel really bad when they do. Thanks SayNoTo0870  Smiley I can't link to the original thread, but perhaps someone else can. Excel and companies like it operating from the same centre need to be stopped.

I've joined your post onto the thread about this company.  Smiley

Hippocampus, you said "I've had a couple of calls from a call centre in Scotland, one of which was so aggressive in the sales technique I ended up in tears."

Surely you have total control when it's a phone sales call??  Hang up at the first sign of rudeness, why hang on till they drive you to tears?  If it had been a salesman actually in your house then I could understand the difficulty of getting him out - but on the phone? Cannot understand.

The problem was that I decided to stay on the phone to try and get the company name out of him, which he refused to give, ignoring my questions and just carrying on with his sales patter. This became increasingly aggressive as I got distressed. In hindsight yes I should have hung up immediately. I was really glad to be able to put the number in here this time it happened. Of course people shouldn't stay on the line to sales calls. But sometimes the frustration and the need to at least attempt to make a complaint get the better of you.
I recommend anyone just hang up and put the number in here. Trouble is, as everyone knows, some calls are untraceable. This is what worried me about the one I stayed on the line for - but when I did 1471 I was lucky  Smiley
