Sorry was not sure where to ask this. But is there an alternative to premium rate text message numbers?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Would we be right in assuming you mean numbers similar to 81215 for Virgin Radio and 81062 for Heart request services at normal network tariff + the premium as dictated by the service?

I'd say there there certainly appear to be 'normal' (mobile number) alternatives because Sky News occasionally put the alternative to 84501 on screen when requesting texts from overseas viewers.

I can't remember the entire number but it was 07
???
501 501

I suspect, though, that only someone with inside information in each case could supply each one.

They normally are (e.g. Sky News say 84501 costs "25p + your normal text rate" -  although I cannot imagine what 'added value service' the short number provides in order for it to 'qualify' as premium rate).

It is, of course, the added value to the provider, just like with 087 Scamtel. More income and no regulatory controls - courtesy of Ofincomp.
