Alliance & Leicester - Internet Savings

Alliance and Leicester has discontinued its 0845 3002562 internet savings 'helpline'. Dialling it or its geographical equivalent listed by this website produces a recorded message "This number has been discontinued. Please redial using 0870 9001199".

I have also just tried to get through to Alliance and Leics using the 0113 220 1505 number, but get a message saying that this number is no longer in use and I should redial using 0870 900 119.

Interesting, their website still says:
Quote:
If you are worried that someone may already have your personal security details, then please contact us on
0845 300 2562
(please dial +44
113 220 1505
if calling from outside the UK).

Can confirm that using Voipcheap (where the number is hidden, and often looks like it's from abroad) you get the message that the number is no longer in use and has been changed to 0870 900 1199

This is obviously a moneymaking wheeze by A&L. I have since found that their internet savings account can only be operated online and if you have problems you must dial the 0870 number. In the past I have used the 0113 geo number without problems.
I have written to A&L suggesting that they visit this website to see the weight of opinion against these telephone ripoffs. Unfortunately while you can open and pay into the account online you cannot close it so I was forced to use the 0870 number to do so. It's the only time I'll use it: my wife and I yesterday closed all our accounts with A&L and moved them to other providers which do not raise obstacles to contacting them.
A&L rates are not competitive anyway.

You should read the rather appropriately named

thread then.

Changing the last digit to 6 gets through to Alliance & Leicester.

I have just rung that number and it is "Alliance & Leicester
Complaints Department"
Maybe a good number to bombard with complaints
