As of yesterday, I have heard that Sunrise Radio is now advertising a new "phone-in" phone number:-
0844 456 1458 (they are saying that this costs 5p a minute)
This is the third change of number in nearly as many months!!!
- In April they switched from 0845 to a 0901 number, charged at £1 per call from a BT line.
- Just over a month later, they launched a new number, this time beginning 0906 which cost £1 per minute from a BT line.
- A month and a half later, they replaced this with a 0844 number costing 5 pence per minute from a BT line.
In this time, I think that there must have been swathes of people complaining, or just not ringing up at all. Perhaps they have lost listeners as a result; particularly callers from mobile phones who have been shocked by the cost.

Could you please tell me what the REAL cost of calling this number will be from a landline or a mobile?
Quite obviously, the actual cost any individual pays depends on the price set by their own call provider. The call cost from BT lines is 5 pence per minute at all times and the cost from Virgin Media is 10.19 pence per minute.
Mobile providers charge anything up to 40 pence per minute.

(PS - Any ideas of how I can try to find the alternative local number for the new 0844 one???)
Unless you happen to posess a crystal ball or other magical tool, then the only way you will find out is by asking those who know the number in question. This is plain common sense.
Clearly, by posing the question, you believe that they are going to be more likely to provide the 020 number now that the published number is a lower rate 0844 one, so why don't you ask them???
I repeat what I said previously...

Does anyone now know of any other alternative telephone number(s) to the studio that can still be used in place of the expensive 0906 number?
I can only think of two who will know this. The radio station's telephone provider and those in the radio station who have requested the change. I think it's safe to say that none of the above will be willing to divulge the number to you, or any other customer... err listener.

I tried the new Sunrise number earlier this afternoon, with the following results:-
A call lasting for about 2 and a half minutes cost £0.89p.
Another call for slightly longer cost £0.94p.
These are miles better than the 0906 number which I called in June which cost nearly £6.50p at £1 a minute!!!
When writing prices, you don't put '£' and 'p' one. It's either one or the other!
In this case, I presume that the 'p' is erroneous and that the numbers are actually units of the Great British Pound (GBP, symbol '£').

My wife telephoned our doctor (
0844 number
) from our BT land line in the afternoon a couple of weeks ago. She was on the phone for 5 minutes and 52 seconds and it cost 40 pence according to my latest bill. That will be ex VAT.
BT is in the process of or has moved everyone to VAT inclusive billing.
The maximum cost of calling 0844 numbers from BT is 5 pence per minute, plus a 9.9 pence call set-up fee, both figures inclusive of VAT.
Calculating the cost of a call lasting 5 minutes and 52 seconds using these figures results in a charge of 39.233 pence. BT's
current rounding policy for VAT inclusive billing rounds these types of call up to the next whole penny, hence 40 pence charge. I would suggest that you have VAT inclusive billing.
