Anyone know anything about these?

Have heard they are even more costly than 0870 numbers.

070 numbers (which includes 0700) are personal numbers and can cost upto 50p/min at all times from a BT landline. They are not mobile numbers and therefore will not come out of inclusive minutes on a mobile package.

To find out the exact rate of a particular 070 number, you will need to specify at least the first 6 or 7 digits.

Thanks for prompt reply, Dave.

As I thought, another rip-off scam.

The number is 07003450102 - how to I find out the cost?

Refer to BT's "Specialised Numbers" booklet here.

For BT non-discounted packages like Light User Scheme, numbers beginning 07003 are in charge band pn3. pn3 are 49p/min during the weekday daytime (Mon-Fri 6am-6pm) and 39p/min at all other times (evening and weekend).

BT Together packages are 5% less than these rates which makes them 46.55p/min during the daytime and 37.051p/min at all other times.

What is it for? Can we find an alternative or can you avoid calling it?

Thanks again, Dave, for your reply. I had no idea such a user guide existed.

The management company responsible for the township in which I live (100 dwellings approx) appears to have fired the agent (a franchisee for Martin & Co) and appointed a firm called Kirby Estate Management of 2 Townsend Close, Leominster, HR6 8QH.

As far as I can see this is a private address and their current account only carries 0700 345 0102 (tel.) and 0700 345 0147 (fax.)

Obviously I would not wish to put you to the trouble of seeking a number for such a relatively small group of people, and so am replying to you out of courtesy.

I must say your site has saved me quite a few bucks since I first heard of it, so thanks again.

Vandermerwe.

I and other members help on here and it doesn't matter how small the group of people that might use the number might be!

A Google of the first few digits of the number, "0700 345", reveals that it was most probably 'bought' from UK2Numbers as similar nearby numbers were cached by Google on 26 May (see here).

The address for Kirby Estate Management is www.kirby-estate-management.co.uk which has a "website coming soon" message. I assume it's the same company as there is no address on the webpage, but a whois does provide a nearby address:

Whois kirkby-estate-management.co.uk:

Quote:
Domain name:
        kirby-estate-management.co.uk

     Registrant:
        xDM Software Limited

     Registrant type:
UK Limited Company, (Company number: 4638041)

     Registrant's address:
        Holcombe
        Duck Street
        Hereford
        HR4 7LP
        United Kingdom

The local code for Townsend Close is 01568.

Using the people search facility on 192.com you can look up people on the electoral role. With the information you have provided, I can see that there are 3 people (on the electoral role) at 2 Townsend Close, and there are 2 director reports for that address. Finding the surname will be key which can then be used to see if they are listed on residential directory enquiries.

Of course, the 0700 number might route straight to a mobile. At 49p/min there will be no requirement for them to pay for incoming calls routed to a mobile!

A Google of "2 townsend" "HR6 8QH" reveals a link to Martin & Co:
Quote:
Martin & Co is a trading style of Kirby Commercial Contracts Ltd Registered in England No 2856328 Registered Office 2 Townsend Close, Leominster, Hereford, HR6 8QH VAT No 614 8127 51

and the second hit gives a phone number for them: 01568 612614

That's odd.
Martin & Co is a trading style of Kirby Commercial Contracts Ltd, registered at the same address - which may be just that; the address registered for the service of legal documents, etc, and not be occupied by the company. It is common for companies to use the address of their solicitors or accountants for this purpose.

You probably already have Martin & Co's office information:

Phoenix House
83 Widemarch Street
Hereford
HR4 9EU

Tel: 01432 278008
Fax: 01432 270170

As it is a property management company, it may be that a 070 personal number was adopted purely for the benefits of being able to route calls to any landline or mobile, including that of the member of staff that is on-call for out-of-hours emergencies 24/7.

Many thanks to Dave again and to pw4.

Am amazed at what you have been able to dig out and it has certainly gone a long way to clarifying the situation for me.

At the end of the day I still think it a scam to charge 49p a minute for calling.

I guess I am not the only one to complain as we have had a circular delivered headed "Change of correspondence address/contact numbers/e-mail which gives "premium rate" in brackets after the phone and fax numbers and adds a "Lo-call" rate for "operations" (whatever that might mean)

It is 0845 643 0107 if it is felt worth adding to SayNoto0870.

Hope this exchange proves useful to anyone else wondering about 0700 numbers.

Thanks again to you both.

Well "lo-call" is a misleading term used to describe 0845 numbers to cover up the fact that they probably are excluded from inclusive call packages and are likely to cost you more than a 01/02 number. I suggest you also avoid these where possible in the same way as you avoid 0870 and others like 0871 and 0844.
