DHL Express Home Couriers - Recruitment
Jul 25th, 2007 at 10:35pm

Roll Eyes  Hi all, new here , have found you through a link on the CAG Consumer Action Group
I am trying to get hold of DHL Express / Home Couriers who only appear to have an 0870 number published
0870 385 0300
I tried a search on this website and found some for DHL but not their home courier service. This must be a recruitment line for their home couriers
They posted a leaflet through our door, saying they want local home delivery couriers in our area and please call this number
As it is a national rate one, I was wondering if someone had a normal landline for them, which may even also be local to me...you never know ?
Any help would be appreciated !! Many Thanks !!

Err, what???!! Go wash your mouth out or clean your fingers/keyboard!

For the majority of residential telephone users distance makes no difference at all. Call your neighbour for the same as a call to the other end of the country. Calls to 0870, and usually 0845 for that matter, are far higher than a national call, hence "national rate" is misleading.

There is no contact address for them on the leaflet - just the telephone number, they have depots / branches all over the country (courier service) Was hoping it may be the number for one of their local branches in Exeter or Bristol maybe. I am in Plymouth

I was obviously advised incorrectly, was told 0870 numbers can still be up to 65% more expensive than a standard national call to a normal landline number ? My tariff to numbers varies depending on weekday/ weekend on the time of day I call and also depends on local, national or international and of course premium numbers / mobile numbers etc

A Google of the number indicates that this ad has been placed all across the country. I guess it is probably a centralised call centre that deals with job applicants.

There's a number for "DHL Express" in Bristol and one for "DHL International" in Exeter in the database. If you phone the Exeter deoit and is indeed "DHL International" and "DHL Express" is based elsewhere in Bristol, then ask them for the number.

The 0870 may go to head office which is 020 88188000.

I am confused by your understanding of how these numbers are charged.

Calls to 0870 numbers are more expensive than most provider's local and national call rates for geographical (landline) 01/02 calls. Those on an inclusive package who pay nothing for 01/02 calls always pay their providers going 0870 rate that (usually) also applies on the most basic package.

More on employment with DHL here.

Err, isn't that what I said above ? I was told about 65% or so more on average, although DHL states behind this number "standard national rate ", hence I asked here whether anybody knew of an alternative. If nothing comes up, I will try the 0870 number, can't be helped then.

If the claim "0870 is national rate" (or similar), is stated on the leaflet, report them to the ASA, as it is misleading information to consumers, (a criminal offence).

You can scan and send the leaflet to the ASA by e-mail, the address is:-

new.complaint@asa.org.uk

I agree, probably been set up just to deal with this specific recruitment drive, may have to use the 0870 number after all

It does indeed state it is a standard national rate (in brackets behind the number)

I read this to mean that you thought you were advised incorrectly that 0870 numbers are up to 65 % higher than a national landline number.

Then report them as above.

There are plenty of numbers for DHL on the alternative numbers page, just type in  DHL in the "Enter company name" box on this page:-

This is a national campaign by DHL Express for home based couriers.  They generally only quote the 0870 385 0300 number but in two areas they also give out geographical numbers:

Gateshead 01914 825 814
Launceston 01271 373 958

The 0870 number is probably a national call center which transfers the caller to his/her local office.

Since the employer is DHL Express, and there are lots of geographic numbers given for them in the database, suggest to contact the nearest office.

I got this number 0871022603771 from a voicemail on my landline.  I applied for a vacancy for a home based delivery person and the number I called was 0870 385 0300

Ok, so where is this job going to be, i.e.  what depot did you originally apply to?
