HMRC London, Gateway House - 0845 3021455
Aug 14th, 2007 at 11:55am

Hello everybody! I have just become a member since when I posted a message on the site there was a notice saying better to discuss things here due to the high volume they had to deal with.
I have been trying to reach an IR office which is (of course!) an 0845 number (0845 3021455) . Now, the alternative number listed (0208 3716241) does not work. I have tried several times and also out of office hours and it gives me a funny tone. It is not the first time an agency or company make the alternative numbers published here obsolete.
I would like to know if someone has ANOTHER alternative number. I am not even sure how much the 0845 numbers cost.
Thanks a bunch!

Are you trying to contact a specific office or just the HMRC in general? Their website now seems to contain a "geographic numbers section" for contacting local offices if you are abroad (http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/local/individuals/international-numbers.htm). Is that of any help to you?

There is an HMRC website

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/local/london-accom-review.htm

which announces today 14 June 2008 (??) that a number of premises including Gateway House in North London are going to be vacated some time in the future. May be they have already done so. As jgxenite requested please let us know the particular branch or office of HMRC you want to contact.

As an aside, it seems that 0845 numbers have some advantage over geographic numbers when a company moves - they are more readily portable than geographic numbers.

Thanks for the link jgxenite, but I can't find that office or indeed any for London in the international list...
The office I am trying to contact is: Recoveries office; London North - Gateway House (as defined by this site). I got their number from another tax office where they told me it was "my local tax office".

Thanks Lompos! I had not read your message when I was writing mine. Perhaps I should try the 0845 Nș then? Does anyone know how much they cost?

Depends who your telco is, BT charge 2p per minute daytime,(7days), and 0.5p per minute evenings,(7 days), plus a 6p conn charge.

Thanks for the info! fWell now I am with Talk Talk (broadband and telephone package)... all calls within the UK are included but it is not clear how much 0870 and 0845 cost.... I just avoid them if I can....

Hi. I tried using the alternative number (020 8371 6241) as well, just today (2008.04.14).

I got that "This number is 'temporarily' un-available". I didn't get the strange noises mentioned above, but I still didn't "get through".

I'm fairly sure that NHS must re-direct their 0845 (4647) number exceedingly regularly, due to the number of "alternative" numbers listed (none of which worked when I tried). I wouldn't put it past Her Majesty's Revenue Service to do something equally dastardly, unfortunately.

(First post, btw.)
