Huh
Hi, short term listener first time caller.....

Bit odd, got a call earlier (13.59) as i was fixing lunch (week off work!*), silence on the other end. Hung up and tried to 1471 for all the good i thought it would do... as my cordless was dialling the number there came a string of other DTMF tones that caused the system to give me a 'cannot reach this number' error. Whizzed over to the base station and pulled the cord for a half minute to be sure nothing else dodgy was going to happen and then tried again. Surprisingly, it actually gave me a number.

0870 428 0216

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any leads on this after a fair bit of web searching, the only hits i've had are for other people trying to figure it out also. Naturally all attempts to find cost-free reverse phone directories have drawn a blank except for here Smiley and the SayNo database doesn't list it either.

Anyone have a clue as to who these particular clowns are?

Going to give my provider's (Virgin...**) customer service number now, as it was congested earlier and i didn't fancy pratting about with the phone whilst trying to finish making and then eating my food. See if they can shed any light or tell me if any other outgoing attempts have been made at that time or any other time.

* Concerning thing is this might have been happening at various other times whilst we've been out. Don't know if there's any way they can trigger the phone line to do a callback without it actually being picked up, but it trying to dial numbers by itself is a bit of a worry.
** Yeah, think I'll get anywhere? Smiley

You just need to play with the numbers.
Looks like someone is trying to sell you something, or it could be our old friends, the Halifax Building Society, who are great at the cold treatment.
Even giving them all known expletives on some occasions has failed to stop them.

http://www.theanomaly.co.uk/?p=246

Scroll down to the number in the 08* section.
You will find a note alongside it. Follow the note and you'll see that there is no specific owner/user.
But however I don't think you have too much to be concerned about, other than the invasion of privacy of course!

One site that seems to be touted on theanomaly is optoutuk.
Not going to link them, because hidden away in the terms and conditions under 1.5 is........................
"You agree to pay a one time payment of £5.00 upon registering for access to the fully comprehensive opt-out features and you will be requested to validate your information so that marketers can be held responsible if they do not respect your choice.  "
