Megabowl (Tenpin) (Read 28,251 times)

The one that is listed on this site 0161 767 9150 is redundant . When you ring it an automated message comes on that says "this number has now changed to 0871 550 1010 blah, blah", so we need a new one. ~ Edited by Dave: Thread title amended

The number is still in service as it rings and answers with a recording. This suggests that the line is still active at the branch and has some device on it to play the recording.

There are presumably other (voice) lines which will probably be for staff and calls from head office etc. Presumably these other numbers have always existed. So they haven't changed the number and I see no reason why they would install a brand new just to play this message.

The fax number given on the website for this branch is very similar 0161 767 9156. I thought perhaps they have a block, so I tried 155, which is a residential line. 151 is not recognised. You could try others nearby.

I've removed the entry.

Just thought I should let you know so they can be added to the wall of shame!

For example, when I tried to dial my local one in Feltham 0208 8670500, the message said:

"Please note we have a new number. Please hang up and dial 0871 5501010".

This held true no matter which local number I dialed (searching Megabowl reveals a list of local numbers around the country, all of them are answered by the same message .. not that I tried all of them but I did try a few!)

I have just been through all Megabowl numbers and most have recorded messages saying that they have now changed the number to the 0871. A couple have network announcements giving the 0871 and a couple are not recognised. FWIW, here is a list of the entries I've removed:
