03 Number Used For Madeleine Appeal on BBCNews24
Dec 22nd, 2007 at 3:27pm

This is just to report that an 03 number was used for a Christmas appeal video for the Madeleine campaign on BBC News 24 just now (Saturday Dec 22nd).

So it seems things are beginning to take off for 03 numbers in the charity giving line sector with the RSPCA also having used one.

But how long before the public understands that they are not extra charge numbers and are part of inclusive call bundless when useless wasters Ofcom are doing precisely zero to publicise the launch of 03 numbers or to publicly encourage bodies like NHS Direct or the Inland Revenue to move across to using them. Shocked Angry Smiley Smiley Smiley

But how long before the Disasters Emergency Committee decides to switch from using an 0870 number to an 03 number. Wink Roll Eyes  Undecided

NGMsGhost, I think you need to visit the opticians.

The report which I presume you are referring to is here.

The number in question is 00 34 902 300 213. It is a Spanish number beginning 0902 which appears to be non-geographical one.

Dave,

No optician's visit needed here as I'm using a Sky Digibox on a 4:3 television and it cuts off the sides of the widescreen format picture to make it fill the 4:3 screen.  Thus the leading zero was truncated on my tv picture making it look on screen like an 034 number.

Oh dear 00 34 902 is one that www.18185.co.uk does not carry calls to at all because of the ripoff hidden additional Spanish NGN charges.  Fortunately Post Office HomePhone doesn't differentiate it and charges are a tolerable if not exactly cheap 5p per minute to the Spanish equivalent of 0870 at all times.  Not of course that I am inclined to donate to the Madeleine appeal based on my continued suspicions that the parents did it (albeit accidentally).

But as the McCanns are now back in the UK (largely so as to stop annoying the Purtuguese Police in to arresting and charging them it would appear) even if the charity call centre is based in Spain surely they should have got a UK 03 number if they actually want mainly UK based viewers to contact it? Huh Undecided
