Note: This message only applies to those who see some purpose in responding to Ofcom consultations.
Amongst the topics covered by a current consultation on "persistent misuse" (primarily Silent Calls) Ofcom also covers revised proposals to potentially take action against the "exploitation of all types of revenue sharing numbers".
This is aimed at a rather narrow (but worthy) target, however the powers available to Ofcom are widely drawn to cover any cause of unnecessary inconvenience, annoyance or anxiety.
Responses may be made on-line, so this could be used as a ready opportunity to have a go at all exploitation of revenue sharing numbers.
Those able to do so could draw some small comfort from the fact that Ofcom now refers to "revenue sharing" numbers alongside "premium rate" numbers when referring to "scams", where previously only the latter were mentioned. At one point it even confirms that all 084x numbers are part of this group.
Details of the consultation are found at:
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/persistent_misuse/I will be publishing my own response (focused on the continued failure to properly get to grips with the issue of Silent Calls) on the Silent Calls website in the next few days.
