Justifiable use for 070
Jan 25th, 2008 at 2:14pm

I had used 070 for years, then moved over to Truphone when the 070 precall announcement kicked in.

Truphone 'guaranteed' that their mobile numbers would be permanent.

Got this beauty by email today, meaning that for both personal and business reasons everything will have to change, AGAIN.

If I had stuck to 070, I wouldn't be left wankered. I did email Truphone support, but their was response was, in effect, 'tough':

           [quote] Truphone numbers are changing

Hello

We'd like to give you advance notice that we will soon be
switching all UK customers to Truphone's very own new number
range.

When this happens your phone number will change from 07624...
to one beginning 07978...

Switching to our new set of numbers allows us to grow and
evolve the service. As an early subscriber (thank you!), you
were one of the few people to be assigned a number from our
old 07624 range.

You don't need to do anything yet. We will contact you again
shortly to let you know your new number so you can begin
telling your friends and contacts.

If you have any questions or queries, please visit the
http://www.mobilevoipforum.org/showthread.php?p=6945#post6945
or email support@truphone.com.

Thank you very much for all your support,

All at Truphone

And you can justify your friends, family, customers being ripped off can you?

070 has always been, and will always be a rip off.

They are not being ripped off.

They have one number to contact, once, instead of having to update address books everytime another supplier decides to move mobile number ranges.

I thought that 070 numbers the customer has to pay over the to for the privelage of talking to you. If that is the case it is a rip off. I certainly would not telephone a company with one of these numbers. Angry

That's the beauty of freedom of choice.

If you don't want to dial a company with an 070 number, then you don't have to dial them.

Additionally, if you are going to count the pennies to the level you do, when making prospective product and service enquiries to commercial companies, best they don't do any business with you.

Good to see you know how to attract customers, treat them with that contempt your company will go far...I think not. You may have money to chuck away but the Great British Public don't like being screwed.

qtel, I run a company and I won't buy services off of anyone using revenue generating number unless we have to or because it is being used for justifiable purposes (eg paying for the support that is being provided). I have no qualms about how much we spend provided it is value for money and I look for a good long term relationship.

You loose my business because rather than me being penny pinching the reverse is true and you are demonstrating that you are not willing to invest in pre sales activity or customer services and therefore I assume you will be a poor supplier long term.

Spot on Keith. My sentiments entirely. qtel's arrogance is beyond belief.

Although I don't receive ANY type of revenue from using 070/NTS, all types of number generate revenue for someone. For example, geographic numbers generate revenue for the number range owner, even is that number is ported (transit cost).

If you PM me, I can show you a stack of evidence that I'm a good supplier.....

Your POV could also be considered arrogant, due to the fact you think any and all companies can afford to pay for any and all costs, whilst relying of ever-thin wafer margins to exist/stay in business.

Additionally, your POV could be considered arrogant for thinking I receive some form of revenue-share from whatever range(s) I mayh happen to use, which is untrue.

If you don't receive any type of revenue for using the 07 number, why not use an 03 number?

Apart from SIP/H.323/IAX style termination, it would be virtually impossible to terminate an 03 number at any type of 01/02/05/07/08 number without each call being negative margin for the carrier - and without me having to pay to receive the call.

Truphone is a different service than you had from an 070 number anyway, so the whole whinge is irrelevant

As for soliciting PMs to promote one's business, most forums call that out of order

Not True. Originally, calls to 070 cost the same as to mobiles.
