Fortis Insurance Glassline
Jan 28th, 2008 at 11:16am

0800 174674

I am not certain this number is actually operated by Fortis or a glass repairing agency contracted to them.

Anyway, I cannot yet find an alternative number by Searching this website or Googling.

It is the number Fortise Insureance advise motor policy holders to call if they need a glass repair or windscreen replacement.

Why are you trying to find an alternative for it though?

Because dialling 0800 numbers from my Mobile phone is exorbitant!

<Fortis Insurance thread is here>

<Use one of the 0200 gateway numbers then>

That is something I have never heard of before.

Searching on Internet produces rather unclear information about something that looks very useful and money saving.

Might I be given a link to some clear cut straightforward info that a non techno person like me might understand, please?

Is it fully legal or might I be taking advantage of some other organisation?

There are two 020 call through numbers for calling 0800 numbers from a mobile. My post might have been a bit more informative if you've said you were calling it from a mobile  Roll Eyes.

Anyway, the numbers you can use are 020 0222 0700 and 020 0222 0900. They will be included in any free minutes you have (they are just normal London 020 numbers) and allow you to call 080x and 0500 numbers from your inclusive minutes.

Wow that is amazing,  and I never knew. Presumably if I save those numbers into my mobile and then use them as a prefix with any 0800 or 0500 numbers I will no longer pay extra for so called "freephone" numbers?

I wonder if it also works for 0845 numbers?

Who provides those numbers? How is it financed?

What is in it for the provider and why is the info not more publicised?

I do not expect answers to any of these questions and am very grateful for the info, but those are the thoughts that are prompted!!

They only for work 080x and 0500 numbers. They are run by Pre-Dial (www.pre-dial.com) but their website doesn't publicise them for some reason. I don't know how it is financed either (presumably offset by the other services they provide - considering calling 0800 numbers is free from a normal landline, and some VoIP services). It is an extremely useful service, and if your phone supports a "pausing" key, then you can just prefix that number before any 080x/0500 numbers you need to call.
