FirstSave
Feb 1st, 2008 at 4:50pm

FirstSave is the new online banking service. Owned by a Nigerian bank.  All UK operations are handled by Newcastle Building Society but when trying their switchboard they only give out the 0845 number.  Have tried inserting 0191 (the Newcastle STD code) instead of 0845 but to no avail).

0845 601 2211 is the number given for FirstSave.  Address: FirstSave, P.O. Box 1195, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE99 1DE

I believe the Newcastle Building Society also operate the Icesave account (for the Icelandic online banking service)

Unfortunately the Newcastle Building Society number is unable to transfer calls to FirstSave.  I also rang Icesave which is operated in the UK by Newcastle Building Society and asked to be transferred to FirstSave-no joy!  I rang the FBN HQ in London (020 7920 4920); got through to switchboard but they were unable to transfer me to the direct number for FirstSave. Everyone says the only number is 0845 601 2211.  I'll bet it's an 0191 number somewhere in the Newcastle upon Tyne area.

alternative to FirstSave's 0845 601 2211

I’m trying to close a fixed savings account with FirstSave that is coming to an end tomorrow. I phoned 020 7920 4920 which is the number on the data base and was asked to call 0845 601 2211 for FirstSave as the 020 number is for FBN bank and not for FirstSave accounts. I got through to FBN bank’s switchboard but they were unable to transfer me to the direct number for FirstSave.

The 020 number for FBN bank appears to close at 5pm as well.

Does anyone know of another alternative for 0845 601 2211 other than 020 7920 4920?

I’m probably wasting my time but I’ve already emailed FirstSave twice in the hope that they will get back to me. I’ve left them my phone number as well.

Thanks

this posting from Martin Lewis's site http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=29649457 may be of interest:

Friend had a one year bond. It matured last year and all monies paid into nominated account on the maturity date.

I've removed this entry which was unverified.

I have joined your thread to the existing one for FirstSave. The FirstSave website identifies it as being operated by FBN Bank (UK) Ltd whose main number is 020 7920 4920.

The OP said that it is operated by Newcastle Building Society, which could be where the NE99 PO Box goes. Try ringing Newcastle Building Society, 0191 244 2000.

Thanks Dave

My Fixed Rate Bond with FirstSave is closing tomorrow and was hoping to close the account before this date but was having problems getting through as I've mentioned above. They were asking me if I wanted to reinvest and wasn't aware they'd put my money into nominated account on the maturity date. I don't want to reinvest with them so was hoping to close the account and have my money transferred in my new Halifax account as soon as possible.

They called me this afternoon after emailing them and said I'd need to either print a form from their website or write to them instructing them to change the details of my nominated account. I'm hoping they'd do this for me as I was hoping they'd put my money in to my Halifax account instead of A&L which is my nominated account with FirstSave.

I'll write them a letter as soon as I can; failing that I'll try calling the number you posted.

Thanks again
