The new number for the Passport Adviceline is 0300 222 0000.
Following a review of customer telephone numbers used by government departments, the Identity & Passport Service (IPS) changed all its customer contact numbers on 1 September 2008.
In line with Central Office of Information best practice recommendations around the use of non-geographical numbers by government departments, IPS has adopted a 0300 prefix for its customer contact numbers. The prefix 0300 replaces the 0870 and 0845 prefixes used in the previous numbers.
For the large majority of customers the cost of calling IPS will be reduced. Calls made to 0300 numbers from landlines and mobile phones are charged to customers at their network provider's national rate. Calls to 0300 numbers also form part of the inclusive minutes within the customer’s call package in the same way as calls to geographical numbers.
Both the old and new telephone numbers will run in parallel for six months, whilst material containing the old numbers is withdrawn.
