Oct 17th, 2008 at 12:05am

There will be a report on BBC Breakfast this morning about 0845/0870 and 03 phone numbers. It will be broadcast at 07:20 followed by an interview with a Say no to 0870 representative and again at 08:20 followed by an interview with someone from Which? It is on BBC One and the BBC News Channel.

Unfortunately the "representative" did not have an opportunity to refer to the website.

Members and visitors may wish to send in messages to BBC Breakfast, making any brief points they think are important and may be read out.

breakfasttv@bbc.co.uk

SMS - 61124

Telephone - 03700 100 125 (This is a new UK WIDE number and costs no more than calls to 01/02 geographic numbers, although calls from mobiles will vary according to your provider.)

Usual confused nonsense - "0300 numbers are intended to replace 0844 numbers (which cost 5p per minute)" but then went on to talk about government 084
5
numbers!

Nice dig at the DVLA's use of 0870 numbers and the millions they make from them though.

But why, I wonder, did they fail to mention the BBC's continued use of 0845 numbers?

After years of ignoring govt. guidelines & RIPPING OFF Council Tax payers using 0845 numbers, Essex County Council changed to 0345 numbers on 2 November 2015

Another contributor to the broadcast was from Which?

There is a piece about this on their website - http://www.which.co.uk/advice/premium-rate-numbers/phone-numbers-to-trust-and-av....

It seems only fair to reciprocate with publicity.

Unfortunately this report does not appear on BBC's website. It contained a brief interview with Sarah Fogden, Chair of the Contact Council.

Graham Satchell asked her, "Do you think members of the public can expect these numbers to change by next year?"

Her response was "Certainly some departments are introducing 0300 numbers as we speak. Others have said that they are choosing not to because they have particular customer bases and particular service needs."
