The Association of Policy Market Makers-Bath,BA1 &
Feb 25th, 2009 at 11:53am

Hi,

I am trying to find the 01 number for the address below. In the search facility on this site the 01/02 number listed is  0207 739 3949. However, each time I ring this London number I am told I need valuations in Bath at the address listed below and given the number 0845 833 0086. This happens even when I withhold my number. Google comes up with nothing on the 0845 833 0086 search. Any ideas?

Company: The Association of Policy Market Makers
Address:    Kings Court, Bath BA1 1ER
Tel:           0845 833 0086
Web:         http://www.apmm.org.uk/contact.asp

Thanks

Mark.

jgxenite..........Thanks for your prompt reply. I have entered the number under the search facility but for the record the valuations department at The Association of Policy Market Makers is 01225 473191 or 01225 473 192. See http://www.policyplus.com/index.php?page=contact-us

OK, thanks for confirming that those two  numbers work for the valuations department.

Can one of the admins please confirm the two numbers in the database as required?

I will verify these entries, but, the OP says that when ringing 020 7739 3949 he was told he needed valuations in Bath. The APMM contact page gives:

Quote:
Selling a Policy ?

Address: Kings Court, Bath BA1 1ER
Tel: 0845 011 9406. Fax: 0845 833 0087.
E-mail: valuations@apmm.org

General Enquiries ?

Address: PO Box 6717, Sturminster Newton, DT10 9AR
Tel: 0845 833 0088. Fax: 0845 833 0089.
E-mail: compliance@apmm.org

Surely valuations is on 0845 011 9406  Huh

Also, where does the 020 number go? Surely the general number for APMM will relate to the address behind the Sturminster Newton PO box.

Hi Mark
I work for PolicyPlus and we provide the telephone and policy distribution service for the APMM. We distribute details of policies to the 6 APMM members for policyholders free of charge so that policy holders can get up to 6 quotes for their policies.

We are more than happy for you to call us on 01225 473191 if the 0845 number is a problem. The reason we use an 0845 number is so that we can distinguish calls in to the APMM rather than PolicyPlus so it would be really helpful to us if you can let us know you are calling the APMM when you call 01225 473191.

All of our staff are trained to handle these calls so if won't be a problem calling the 01225 number. The 0845 number is a low call rate (unlike 0870 numbers) but we appreciate that it may be more expensive to call than the 01225 number if you are on an inclusive calling plan. Another reason we use the 0845 number is that if we were to lose the contract to provide this service, it could be transferred to the new provider wherever they are in the country without changing the number.

I hope this information is useful to anyone using saynoto0870 to find The Association of Policy Market Makers (APMM).

It isn't a very "low call rate" if one is calling either from overseas or from a cellular network when compared to the cost of calling a geographic number. From memory, and I haven't checked the latest Ofcom data, around 40% of calls are mobile-originated.

There really is very little point in 0845 numbers. Anything you can do with 08 can be achieved with 01, 02 or 03. It's only because Ofcom has made virtually everyone believe that all these 'special services' (routing, stats, IVR) can only be achieved with these 'special numbers'. This is, or course, pure nonsense, but is so commonplace that the spivs such as NEG use this to deceive the public and the health service.

Nevertheless, credit for offering a geographic equivalent number, and being willing to accept calls to such number. You're probably in a minority. Credit also for being able to spell 'lose' correctly - a rarity these days!
