It is unlikely we will be able to find an alternative for this. Even if we could, you probably can't re-program the alarm box to use the alternative number. You will need to speak to Group4Securicor and tell them you don't wish to have your alarm box calling an 0870 number, although I doubt they'll do anything about it.

We have discussed ADT's antics with regards its alarms phone premium 0870 numbers before.

As jgxenite says, even if an alternative is found, you would have to reprogram your alarm.

Do you know where calls to the 0870 number go? Is there a control centre?

Why does it keep phoning G4S, other than to generate revenue for them, of course?

Expect the 0870 number to be changed soon, because of the loss of revenue when calls are reduced to geographical rates in August this year.

hi, thanks for the speedy posts !

i am an alarm engineer and i ring the g4s central station (from my own mob phone) to put alarm systems on "test" while i carry out work on the system, when i am finished working on the alarm system i then ring up again to take it off test.

i dont want to reprogramme the number that the alarm sends the signals to (if you get what i mean) the customer pays for that, so its not my problem.

i use another central station called 'custodian' i have already found there geo number on this site, but the g4s one is proving more tricky. ive already asked one of the g4s opperators for the geo number but he said they dont have one, lol.

Can you provide some feedback on the Custodian entries? There are three of them, two unverified. If you have used those sucessfully the unverified number or numbers, then please let me know and I will list them as verified. Likewise, the verified entry, if it no longer is suitable, please let me know.

Is this G4S 0870 number automated, or do you have to speak to an operator to put systems on test? Or is it a menu that has an option to speak to an operator? Do you know where the calls are answered?

I Googled g4s monitoring centre and found:

There's a piece on the G4S website with a photograph of the new office:

http://www.g4s.com/uk/uk-what_we_do/uk-security_services/uk-monitoringandrespons...

http://www.info4security.com/story.asp?storycode=4120596

Quote:
G4S invests £3.4 million in state-of-the-art Monitoring Centre

G4S Security Services (UK) has officially opened its BS 5979-compliant, state-of-the-art Monitoring Centre at Heron View in the regenerated Harbour Estate area of Belfast.

From G4S' website:

http://www.g4s.com/northernireland

G4S Northern Ireland
12 Heron View
Airport Road West
Belfast, BT3 9LN

Telephone: 0844 811 0118  Lips Sealed

I gather that the number on the bottom of this page is a DDI number (all be it with 0844 in front):

http://www.nicci.co.uk/members-directory/298/

028 9024 6588

Another one here:

https://www.jobcentreonline.com/JCOLFront/JobDetails.aspx?VRef=861744&SOC=5000&S...

028 9044 2480

http://www.uksecuritycompany.co.uk/belfast/

028 9044 2433

Do you know whether the alarm receiving centre is in Belfast?

Hello and welcome to SAYNOTO0870.COM.

I've joined your thread to the existing one for this company.

You say that the other number you require is the alarm call centre number, 0870 601 1555. So what is the other 08 number and what is it for? Huh

I ask because I would like to list them in the database for others to use. Also, what is its purpose and what is its 01/02 alternative?

Hi Dave the 08706011555 number is a number our engineers call when testing.  An engineer can call this number up to 14 times a day from a mobile and we are finding it costly.  i can not find an alternative number for this 08 number.

Cheers

So, you're an alarm engineer working for a company and, when working on one of their alarms, you have to call a premium rate number from your personal mobile?

To summarise what we've already found and some other points:
  • The alarm monitoring centre is based at 12 Heron View, Airport Road West, Belfast, BT3 9LN, Tel: 0844 811 0118
  • Its old monitoring centre at 191 Ormeau Road, Belfast, BT7 1FQ closed some time in 2008 when it moved to Heron View.
  • The 028 9044 2xxx numbers in this thread (replies #5 and #8) are now "temporarily out of service". This suggests that they could have been the numbers from the old Ormeau Road office. There is a recording on 028 9044 2700 which says that this number range now belongs to Bank of Scotland Ireland.
  • In reply #5 I posted the number 028 9024 6588 which rings. Googling gives some results which list it as a fax number at Ormeau Road.

Any numbers that are known for this office might be helpful to us in finding an alternative. For example, direct to members of staff or fax numbers.

From August 2009 premiums carried with 0870 calls were removed, but despite this most phone companies haven't passed these savings onto customers. This company uses alot of 0844 numbers, maybe it has moved from 0870, but not this number.

What it does mean is that G4S receives no subsidy from callers, so it would make no difference to it if it switched to a 03 number. Perhaps those who ring it can suggest to the Company that it be changed.
