Unfortunately not. I did get through to someone, who didn't identify herself. She said that's now a private number/the number has been changed and couldn't give me the number for Action against Medical Accidents because she doesn't know it.

But thank you very much for trying. Smiley

I hate being forced to dial 0845 numbers...

Remember, depending which option you are on 0845 numbers are 'free' from a BT landline

Mind you looking at this outfit they come under the catagory  'Charities & Volunteer Organizations' so perhaps they are helping to fund their charity with an 0845 number.

Contact page gives fax 020 8667 9065. You could try nearby numbers although some pages list 9000 and 9060 as belonging to others. You could try downwards, ie 9064.

1 year after the first post, I am also looking for a geo number for AVMA.
Have tried your suggestion Dave, but no luck.
Can't afford their 0845 number, so I will have to email them, and hope they reply asap - advice@avma.org.uk

Medical accident charity opens helpline in North

AvMA, the Action against Medical Accidents charity, has recently opened a helpline based in Manchester, following the success of its existing service

AvMA, Action Against Medical Accidents, has been running its helpline since 2002 and due to success and demand, the hours were increased in 2006. Following research on the uptake and demand of callers from all over the United Kingdom, AvMA has now developed the service further with a base in Manchester.

With the help of a call handling system, access to AvMA will improve for all callers – geographical routing will enhance the service so that resources of the most appropriate nature can be provided to the client. It is projected that all callers will have a much greater opportunity to speak to an adviser as the system will divert calls to the main AvMA office in Croydon, should the Manchester advisers be busy on other calls. The extended service in Manchester will particularly assist those callers within an area covering the West Midlands and Shropshire in the south to Cumbria and Northumberland in the north.

AvMA has provided advice, support and guidance to those suffering medical harm for over 25 years. "We offer help and assistance from both a medical and a legal perspective so that clients can decide which course of action may be most suitable for them. Our aim is to help them achieve as positive an outcome as possible," said Steven Liddiard, Senior Advice Worker and Manchester Helpline Co-ordinator.

The number for the helpline is 0845 123 2352 and calls are charged as a local rate call.

AvMA can be reached between 10am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

If you have any questions or queries about any aspect of the Northwest helpline then please contact Steven on 0161 8196858 or by email at steven@avma.org.uk.

The posting I made above yields a few clues.

Chiefly, the single 0845 number directs calls to the different offices. With this in mind, the 0845 number probably puts calls through to geographic numbers at AvMA's offices and thus these numbers will bypass the mechanism on the 0845 number.

Calls are dealt with in Manchester and Croydon. Steven Liddiard is based in Manchester and his direct number is 0161 819 6858.

The question is, is Mr Liddiard's direct dial number a clue to those which belong to the Manchester office? Undecided

The number 0161 819 6860 is answered by a recording identifying itself as Key Travel as do some other numbers above 6860. Key Travel's contact page gives telephone 0161 819 8900 and fax 0161 819 6861. This perhaps rules out numbers 6860 and above as belonging to AvMA.

Cracked it!

The alternative for AvMA's 0845 123 2352 helpline number is 0113 344 3105.  Wink
