I assume that the 0845 611 xxxx numbers redirect to the central call centre when there is no answer at individual officers. I also think that it is likely that there is no need to contact the local office directly as it once maybe would have been the case.

I think that it's likely that your local office will be notified automatically by computer.

So Royal Mail FAQ which says that Delivery Office opening times vary and will be stated on the card they put through your door.

I have always assumed that most "delivery offices" are Post Offices within respective sectors as I know mine is. The red post bicycles can be seen outside, and any mail they can't deliver goes back there where it can be collected. Thus, my local delivery office is open when the Post Office is open.

I agree with what Lompos says here. What he says goes for my area in West Sussex.

Awfully nice of the Royal Mail, asking their customers to telephone 0845 470 470 if they think they have been duped by their postman by putting a 'sorry you were out' card through the door when the customer was home all the time.
