Post Office offering free to uk mobile calls

Perhaps you would like a little point in the right direction.. Since indeed we do pay more on line-rental and get little back (apart from pressure to use inclusive call packages at another high rate).

I may not call many mobiles, but they are mainly at the weekend, and this could indeed encourage me to take my line out with post-office..

Link doesn't work for me ...

But I found it (www.postoffice.co.uk and click on broadband & phone, look for HomePhone)

they are a little inconsistant in their terms: here if their damn portal software doesn't rely on cookies..

3. Inclusive calls are to UK landlines with area codes beginning 01, 02, or 03, all UK mobile networks, our top 40 international destinations and calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers dialled directly.

9. UK mobile pricing for daytime and evening calls applies to Orange, O2, Vodafone, Virgin and T-Mobile. Charges to all other mobile networks may vary.

Their price list goes into phenominal detail with regard to pricing on some number ranges, but still just says "Mobile networks" for mobile calls.  So taking the two together, how much would calling a Tesco mobile cost, daytime?

Tesco Mobile uses the O2 network, so, assuming that a number hasn't been ported, then it will be charged as per O2 because it will be on an O2 07 number.

Mobile to landline calls are charged according to network operator that operates a particular number block. Where an individual number has been ported, it still remains within the original operator's block and is thus charged at its rate.

As I understand it landline callers to mobile customers using MVNO services (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) such as Asda Mobile, Tesco Mobile etc are charged on the basis of call rates for the parent network that provides the underlying mobile network to that company (eg Vodafone for Asda and O2 for Tesco).  However as Dave states if the number has been ported from another operator then the calls will be charged at the rate of the original mobile network that number was issued to.

Which call rate you are charged for contacting any dialling code should be indicated in your landline call company's full call price list.
