When was the piece of equipment to which the remote is for purchased?
I got an wharfedale dvdr24f freeview pvr. As i said i lost the remote to it I did try my phone irRemote for my nokia n95 8gb but with no luck.
Ah right. The reason I asked was because if a product was bought recently and breaks, then it's the retailers responsibility to repair or replace rather than the manufacturer's. As you've lost the remote, then you could be on your own.
Let us know how you get on with Argos. Failing that, you will have to look at sourcing a new remote yourself. A universal remote (assuming you can find one that works), like your Nokia, might be OK for the main functions, but often these devices have lots of buttons for more obscure non-common features.
I came across
this posting on another forum, also from someone in Liverpool, who has, believe it or not, lost the remote to exactly the same piece of equipment. A suggestion is made as to an online store that sells replacement remotes.
If you know of any Wharfedale dealers in your area, you could always ask them if they can get you a remote for it.
The Wharfedale website gives one dealer in Liverpool:
