London School of Economics (Accommodation)
Nov 1st, 2009 at 3:51am

Hi,

I am studying at the LSE and I live in one of the LSE Halls. The problem is that my friends are either unable to reach me at the 0844 number that is used at my halls or it is super expensive for them if they are able to get through. I would be extremely grateful if I can get an alternative number for it. The number is 0844 550 6666. Thanks a lot.

Hi and welcome to SAYNOTO0870.COM.

There was an entry in our database for LSE listing 0870 036 6666 and alternative 020 7405 7686. This is the number published for contacting the School and requests an extension number. A previous request was made in 2006 and the member confirmed that this number allows access to accommodation extensions.

LSE has changed to 0844 following the loss of support for revenue sharing on 0870 numbers. The message about the change is here.  Lips Sealed

I have removed the 0870 number and added the 0844 number you've supplied to the entry.

Please let us know how it goes as it will help others with the same query.  Smiley

Thank you very much for your reply. Unfortunately, this number is not working for accommodations anymore. I have made my friends try it. When they dial the extension a recording comes on and it says that you should call on the 0844 number for accommodations. Can you please help me with an alternative for the 0844 number? Thanks a lot.  Smiley

The number we are looking for is a single number that requests a destination extension number. That's like looking for a needle in a haystack.  Sad

The 020 7405 7686 number is a widely published general number for LSE.

The alternative to the 0844 number for accommodation is not in the ranges 020 7405 76xx and 77xx, as I have just tried them.

I think that the best thing you can do is raise this issue of the cost of calling the 0844 number with LSE Student Union. As it's a single number, callers are charged from when it asks them for the extension number. So when your own phone rings, the caller is paying.

Bearing in mind that you're not always going to be in your room, and so some will pay just to make your phone ring, it will probably be generally cheaper for them to contact you on your mobile.

Actually I just saw a few LSE numbers and I am unsure how you check the ranges but I saw that most numbers for LSE begin with 020 7955 73xx or 020 7107 57xx. Is there a way to check whether the 0844 number might be in them or not? Thanks again. Smiley

Those numbers you identify are for dialling straight to extensions within the main school. The school's telephone directory is here:

http://www.lse.ac.uk/directory/

I very much doubt that they will be among those. Even still (in answer to your question) there is only one to find out if it is one of those.......

Keep subscribed to this thread and if it does come to light, you will get to know.

There are links into the phone system support services on geo numbers:

"To access the voicemail service from outside the LSE phone system, key 020 7955 6880"
"if you want to use your calling card from a payphone ....  number is 020 7699 9705."

I was hoping these would be obviously in the same close number range ... it seems not ...

It also seems that they have numbers in the 020 7852 3xxx range.  Big place!
