Aviva
Nov 15th, 2009 at 1:53pm

I'm trying to get in touch with Aviva insurance. The number listed by Aviva is 0844 891 1101 and there is a freephone number too of 0800 068 5637, but I don't have a landline. My mobile contract doesnt include calls to any 08 numbers, so I need a 01, 02 or 03 number to get through to them...

Anyone able to help?

I've searched the database for Aviva and Norwich Union and there are lots of switchboard numbers, but they are all closed outside of 9-5 mon-fri, and the numbers I've listed above are available on Sat and Sun, but I don't want to pay to talk to them.

Welcome to the SayNoTo0870 forums Zoggman.

Yes, use whichever of the 020 gateways works on your network (try one and then try the other of the first doesn't work).  That'll mean you can call any 0800 number out of your inclusive minutes.

020 0222 0700

Hi Zoggman,

I take it, that you have possibly Car Insurance with Aviva.  I do have Car Insurance with the said company, and when I received my documents, the following numbers were given for:

Customer Services - 0844 8911101

Claims Helpline - 0844 8911111

I did contact the company to ask why are using premium rate numbers - no real reply.

I would really like to find out the geographic numbers to these 0844 numbers.

Hi and welcome to SAYNOTO0870.COM.

You can call so-called "freephone" numbers (0800/0808/0500) from your mobile using a dial through provider such as 020 0222 0900. Calls will be charged the same as a call to a geographical (landline) number as that is what it is.

Dial the number, when it answers, input the destination freephone number.  Wink

For the purpose of those reading this at a later date, today is Sunday. I tried the following numbers just now and found that they are closed:

01603 202500
01904 685000
0800 0686800

They all say they are open 8am-8pm M-F 8:30am-5pm Sat. I believe that these are for customer services.

Car insurance claims is also 0800 222400.

The Aviva contact page gives 01603 208931 for calling from abroad. It gives the same opening hours as the 0800 068 5637 number given in the original posting: Monday - Friday 8am - 10pm, Saturdays 8am to 6pm, Sundays 10am - 4pm.

Actually, they give it as 0044 1603 208931 rather than +44 1603 208931.  Roll Eyes

Now you know how it should be done, you'll keep on noticing how so few other people get this stuff right.   Wink

Some of the worst offenders are the telecoms companies themselves.  A new Phone Book arrived recently.  On one page of 'useful numbers', five different formats are used for 08xx non-geographic numbers, only one of which is correct.  More than half of the numbers are shown using incorrect formats.  In many cases it is likely simple ignorance on the part of the compiler.  Other times, I suspect it is an attempt to 'mask' exactly what type of number it is.

That is, you 'know' that calling 0844 numbers costs more than 0845 numbers, but maybe you might not notice the number is an 0844 number if it is written as 08445 345678.

Sorry to revive this thread again!

It would appear that Aviva has recently updated most of it's contact numbers to 03.

I say most as I can at least find a few here that are still 0844 or 0871.

There are too many to individually list, but click the link to be taken to their Contact Us page and then select the product you require.

Many insurance companies are now making the switch. The new FCA regulations come into effect on 26 October 2015.

Where an 084 or 087 number is still shown, it is always worth trying the matching 034 or 037 number. Some companies can take weeks to update their websites after a new number is introduced. Paperwork can take months or years (e.g. annual policy renewal, etc).

Got a brief reply from Aviva,

It seems the Pet Insurance (which is provided by BDML) will be changing it's number when BDML changes to 03 numbers.

I have e-mailed back about the 0871 number used for Short Term Car Insurance.

Is there any press release from FCA about the regulation changes?

Quick update the Short term car insurance (Provided by DayInsure) has now been updated to an 03 number.

We just await the update for Pet Insurance (which is provided by BDML) to have their number updated.

Oddly both DayInsure and BDML have updated their numbers already.... Aviva advised me they hadn't and that was why those two numbers were still 08..

It can often take weeks or months for numbers to be updated on websites and paperwork.

In fairness the contact at Aviva updated the number soon after I pointed out that DayInsure had updated their number.

Now it's just BDML who do the pet insurance.
