Best thing to do would be to PM the site admin, Daniel, or one of the admins (Dave for example). I'm not sure whether you have to have posted a few times before you can PM. If that is the case, send an email via the contact form on the main page and then post here saying you've sent it.

I have removed Pinkie's phone number from the database.

Sorry for causing a nuisance Pinkie.

Do you think that your number was listed as an alternative for Argos purely accidentally or do you think it was added maliciously by someone who wanted you to be pestered with lots of unwanted calls on your home phone number?

A fair question, but perhaps not best answered in public.

And who exactly are you to act as the arbiter of what it is and is not acceptable to post on this forum?

The last time I checked you were neither the forum owner or a forum moderator.

Perhaps if you got a life you would no longer have time to make such chiding posts towards other forum members?

Was the number in question a confirmed or unconfirmed number? If it was confirmed, it is possible that Argos used to use that number but now doesn't, and it was recycled to the OP by the network that owns that number.

I agreed with the question that was perhaps puzzling many of us. We must always remember that this is a public forum read by all and sundry. The OP clearly wishes to avoid receiving unwanted telephone calls. If there is a possibility that the number was published deliberately, then the last thing to do would be engage in further discussion of the detail as this may incite further such action.

I intended no rebuke, I simply sought to offer a reason why the OP may not wish to reply to what, in general terms, was a perfectly reasonable question.

With apologies to Pinkie, there's nothing to stop any disreputable company registering here and posting a similar sort of message to Pinkie's, "
I recently found out that my personal phone number is on this site, as an alternative phone number for ABC Ablutions Ltd.  I would like my phone number removed please as I am sick to the back teeth of umpteen phone calls per day asking if I am ABC Ablutions Ltd.  Please remove 01xxx234567 from your database.
" as a way of getting a genuine geographical alternative removed and bumping up their disguised premium rate income again.

Fair point, one wonders however if the person who answers the verifying call made by the database administrator to advise that this has been done will have been prompted to express suitable gratitude. If not, then the deceit will be revealed for what it is.

The database of alternatives is immensely useful to many people. We must not however not be lulled into thinking that it is the whole, or even the main part, of the battle against misuse of revenue sharing numbers.
