Working Lunch piece - DWP 0800s free from mobiles
Jan 15th, 2010 at 5:04pm

Following the announcement to make 0800 numbers foc from mobiles to the DWP (the details of which I haven't read yet) Working Lunch covered the general topic of 08xx numbers in more detail than normally happens and unlike most of these reports actually got the facts right. They also interviewed the person responsible for Telcoms at Which on who gave Ofcom a decent pasting for not sorting it all out.

Saynoto0870 got some decent plugs and best of all Doctors and NEG got some flack.

It was stated that GPs got 2p per minute for the calls and that the bills built up as you listened to the options and were kept on hold.

NEG provided a statement saying GPs did not get paid anything but got a discount off of enhancements/upgrades. Pretty poor statement as any idiot can see that is the same thing.

Please bear in mind I'm doing this from memory so these weren't the exact words.

Nothing on the shambles of government banning (sort of) ish GPs using 0844 numbers.

Pretty good stuff by Working Lunch.

This takes you to a piece on car insurance for young drivers!

Do you have the correct one? Thanks

It now forwards to the main Working Lunch page, just like www.bbc.co.uk/workinglunch does. The listings of programmes on the BBC iPlayer suggests that this episode is no longer available which explains why the URL I posted doesn't go to it.

Thanks. That works fine. It was a good feature - let's hope it does some good.
