I cannot find any previous thread in the site relating to the above so felt I should post this warning. A little while ago, I had a call from a man with a very strong Indian/Pakistani accident claiming to represent the Accident Investigation Bureau, his English was very poor but he said somone on our telephone number had had an accident in the last two years and he wanted to speak to them; I pointed out that they hadn't, he became quite aggressive "look, someone on that number has had an accident in the last two years PASS ME OVER TO THEM NOW". I told him not to take that tone with me and hung up on him. We are on TPS. A little research has shown lengthy threads on this bunch on both moneysavingexpert & mumsnet, all have exactly the same experience - man with Indian/Pakistani accent, gives an English name if pressed, in one case on mumsnet, the receipient of the call was given a random private number as AIBs & the poor householder then had to change their telephone number as they had so many calls from angry people who had been called by AIB. Many others on both sites were either TPS, ex-directory or both. Apparently, the AIB staff regularly become aggressive/abusive. I did find a company on Google called Accident Investigation Bureau run by an Edward Hamilton-Smith tel 01623 657853 but when I tried this number it was unobtainable. Suffolk Police have also issued a warning about this bunch as bogus callers. I just thought other forum members should be aware.
I am now going to try & report them re TPS for all the good it will do me.
