Welcome to SAYNOTO0870.COM.

I'm not sure why you've posed the question I've highlighted.

Based on the text you've quoted, I presume that you have taken it from the Jobcentre Local Office Search at los.direct.gov.uk

If the social fund is based at that same address then we need to look for the numbers that go to that address.

At present there is no entry for St Helen's Jobcentre in our database. Therefore, follow the guidance I posted previously.  The starting point is the old main number for St Helens Jobcentre which is 01744 698000. Thus, I suggest that numbers are probably in the 6980xx range and possibly higher; i.e. 6981xx etc. The number of numbers they have is likely to depend largely on the number of staff they have at that location.

Let me know how you get on by posting back here. Once you have a suitable number that they will deal with calls on, post here and I will add it to the database for others to use.  Smiley

Thanks for your help  Smiley Yes i got the address from los.direct.gov.uk and the number you highlighted would that be the same as for social fund? but i found that out by calling the crisis loan number and gived me

0845 6088538 = As im looking to apply for a budgeting loan / Social fund.

I have no idea whether any alternative at the Jobcentre in Gregson House will deal with your enquiry for social fund. There is only one way to find out, and that it to try!

The question is, where are calls to 0845 608 8548 answered?  Huh

If they are answered at Gregson House, then the suggestions I put may be of help in seeking out an alternative. If they are not based there, then you could ask to be put through.

It does not mean that the number is answered close by.

I did suggest some 01744 numbers.  Roll Eyes

Like sherbert, I pointed you to the number 01744 698000, not because it is a suitable alternative, but because numbers in Gregson House are likely to follow on. That is 698001, 002 etc up to however many numbers they may have (could be tens or hundreds).

At each Jobcentre there was a switchboard operator who took calls on the main numbers. In the case of St Helen's, that was 698000. They decided to save some money by doing away with them, instead having one central switchboard for all Jobcentres, which is what 0845 604 3719 is.

Sadly, they chose to use a premium 0845 number, rather than a 03 number as it is DWP policy to use 0845 numbers.

toasteduk, you might also like to do a search for
dwp
and look down the results. There may be something in there that will help you.

There are no St Helen's numbers on that list, but there are others such as Liverpool ones.

It may be worth remembering that all jobcentres have phones available to the public which connect direct to the various 0845 destinations. If you live near to a jc or have to visit anyway, why not use the phone there and when they cannot help you, (which is almost always!), tell them you want them to call you back at home or on your mobile, (they state in their booklet that they will do this... see my previous post).

If, like me you do not live near a jc this is of no help of course. Sad

Two new numbers for the Jobcentre 'Benefits Delivery Centre' (BDC) office in Basildon, which seems to now be handling all claims in the East of England following the closure of the Norwich BDC.

01268 633006 (I have not used the number but have no reason to doubt it)

01268 633061 (I have used, & can confirm that this number is correct for this office).  Incidentally, the names of two managers there are:  Tina Hill & Steve Ford.

These numbers were furnished to me by one of the 0845 call centres, (I used a phone at the jc to call it!), after I threatened to contact my MP if they continued to refuse to give me a direct number for the BDC.

You may like to note that telling most jc staff that you are going to your MP seems to make them suddenly become a lot more helpful!

Hello and welcome to SAYNOTO0870.COM.

I have joined your posting to the long thread running for Jobcentre numbers.

Every Jobcentre used to have its own switchboard/general enquiries number for which callers would be put through to whoever they required. Jobcentre Plus decided to centralise all the switchboards into one and they also took the opportunity to introduce a premium 0845 number.

I have written guidance on finding other numbers at each Jobcentre and I suggest you have a read of it. The 'old' switchboard number for Lancaster Jobcentre is 01524 302000, so this is your starting point; other direct dial numbers are likely to follow on.

When you have a suitable number, please post it here and I will add it to the listings.

Thanks Dave - I did check that thread but Lancaster's one of the one's not listed yet. The 01524 302000 just gives you a recorded message about the 0845 number. I'll see if I can wangle anything out of them when I'm next down there.

If you are referring to our listings, then you should be aware that numbers are listed when someone adds them. So the reason there is no entry for Lancaster Jobcentre is because no one has submitted one.

Of course the 01524 302000 number gives a recorded message because it is the old switchboard number for that office!

My suggestion was that, as you would like a number for Lancaster Jobcentre, you might like to go about looking for it and then share it with us for others to use. Hence the suggestion that you dial direct numbers until you find someone willing and able to deal with your call.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for this; I've added an entry for it in the listings.  Smiley

Please provide feedback on database entries that need attention by posting in the Requests section of the forum. By this I mean numbers that don't work (say why they don't work) and therefore need removing; unverifieds that do work and can therefore be verified; companies that have changed numbers (whether it be 01/02/03 or 08 numbers) etc.

The alternative numbers listings work best when users tell us of any necessary updates. It creates better quality (more accurate) listings and stops others wasting their time ringing non-working numbers and saves the nuisance of those receiving calls who cannot help.
