You're asking us to help you find an alternative number; so what is the number you have?

NPower is a big company. What is "Fuel Direct"? Does it have a website? What is the contact address, e-mail address, fax number and any other useful information?

Fuel direct is a service from npower where they take deductions from benefits to pay for gas/electric bills, the only number i have is 0845663450

Are you sure that is the right number? To me there is a digit missing

There are loads of verified and unverified numbers on the database for npower. Have you tried any of them?

Also as Dave suggests in his post and also his instructions that I gave you the link for, we could do with at least a web and postal address to get us started.

If you've got unpaid bills from a fuel or water supplier, and you receive Income Support, Pension Credit, Employment and Support Allowance or income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, you can ask your benefits office to pay the supplier directly out of your benefit. This system is called Fuel Direct. It covers your current fuel use and also pays off a certain amount of your unpaid bill each week.

The best thing is to try some of the numbers we already have listed. General customer services may be able to deal with the queries; indeed it could be the same people who answer the Fuel Direct 0845 number that answer those numbers.

It's a case of suck it and see.

Let us know how you get on. If you find a suitable alternative I will list it for others to use.

I have assumed that the 0845663450 number you quoted which has one digit missing is in fact 0845 166 3450.
