0845/0870 Alternative Number Sourcing
Mar 6th, 2011 at 3:04pm

I have been trawling sites Ofcom included attempting to find a clue to source alternative number to 0845 - 0870 and 0871 numbers and I haven’t really come across any magical solution. I invite members feedback on the following an alternative way to gain the information from telecom providers. “I may have mentioned this and if so I apologize”

Is this plausible

Can an E Mail script be sourced that will enable members to contact telecoms companies requesting the 01/02 number, I have carried out this exercise and I have had some success.

I contacted KCom “Kingston Communications” requesting an alternative 0114 number and it read as follows

To Whom It May Concern

Can you help me?  Is it possible for you to send me the alternative 01 or 02 number for 0870XXXXXXX because I am unable to phone this number as our phones have call baring in operation.

I have sent this type of message on a number of occasions and it has been successful. The first time I used it was with Kingston and they even rang me straight back and told me the 01 number there and then with no problem.

Sounds like a wonderful idea.

I would recommend including 03 in the e-mail.

I have recently contacted Southern Rail and Southeastern Railway (both owned by GoVia) requesting an alternative number, and suggesting they switch to an 03 number as well.

I await their response.
