Hi, can anybody help with this one?

I need to contact Worcestershire Childrens Services. The number is 0845 607 2000. Fax is 01905 768056. Minicom 01905 768052

I managed to get through today via switchboard on 01905 765765 but usually this is difficult. The person I spoke to in childrens services was of managerial capacity. He finished the conversation by saying if I need to call again feel free. I asked for the geographical number and he said there wasn't one. When I told him that I know full well there has to be one for the call to terminate to, he said 'sorry, you have to call the 0845 number, it is just protocol I'm afraid'.

County Council address is

Worcestershire County Council, County Hall, Spetchley Road, Worcester, WR5 2NP

I can only find a PO box address for childrens services.

On the document below it states 'THE TELEPHONE NUMBER FOR PROFESSIONALS IS NOT FOR PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION OR USE - IF YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL AND DO NOT HAVE THE PROFESSIONALS‟ NUMBER, PLEASE E-MAIL FROM YOUR PLACE OF WORK, OR RING THE PUBLIC NUMBER. OUR CUSTOMER ADVISORS WILL NEED TO RING YOU BACK WITH THE PROFESSIONALS‟ NUMBER'.

I am assuming by this they mean for access to the ddi's.

Isn't it typical that these numbers are so widely used for services that care for the vulnerable!

Appreciate your help though

I came across this PDF which lists contact numbers for the Council.

Some numbers I tried from there are below. In italics are descriptions of purpose followed by an explanation of what is given in their messages. All are voiced by the same male:

01905 763763 - County Hall Telephone - "Worcestershire County Council"; Open Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat 9am-5pm. For Social call emergency: 01905 768020; Gives mobile numbers for highways emergencies in different areas
01905 765765 - Worcestershire Hub Customer Services - "Worcestershire Hub"; access services online at www.whub.org.uk (note it doesn't give opening hours)
01905 822722 - Libraries & Learning - "Libraries & Learning Service at the Worcestshire Hub"; Press 1 for opening times of local library; Open Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat 9am-5pm; goto www.worcestershire.gov.uk/libraries
0845 607 2000 - Social Care - "Worcestershire Hub"; Open Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat 9am-5pm. Emergency duty team: 01905 768020
0845 607 2005 - Highways & Transport - "Worcestershire Hub"; Open Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat 9am-5pm. Highways emergency duty team: gives mobile numbers for different areas
0845 607 2007 - Waste & Recycling - "Worcestershire Hub"; Open Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat 9am-5pm. See website at www.whub.org.uk
0845 603 2859 - Registration Service - "Worcestershire Hub"; Open Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat 9am-5pm. See website at www.whub.org.uk

Based on the fact that they all answer with similar messages, I think it's safe to say that the 08 numbers will definately have 01905 numbers in the Council's numbering somewhere.

Following on from the above, I tried some other numbers and found them to also be answered by the same male voice:

722224 - "Environmental Health at the Worcestershire Hub" - Open Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat 9am-5pm; Environment health emergency in Malvern, Worcester or Wychavon : 0845 130 1469; emergency in Redditch: 01527 67666
722225 - as 722224
722232 - as 722225
722233 - "Worcestershire Hub" Open Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat 9am-5pm; for out of hours emergencies 0845 056 8035; www.whub.org.uk
822711 - not recognised
822733 - "Worcestershire Hub" - mentions non-receipt of council housing benefit payments
822744 - as 822733
822755 - as 765765
822766 - as 765765
822777 - not recognised

Apart from the two numbers above, the pattern 76x76x is cold.

floella2, perhaps you could do your bit for the campaign and submit a FOI for the geographic numbers that these 08 numbers I've listed direct calls to, along with any others you know that the Council uses. These let us know here so they can be listed for others to use.

Also, digging near the fax and minicom numbers turns up (not the same voice over as on 765765 etc above):

768053 Social Care Access Centre and single point of access for intermediate care and admission prevention
768054 WCC Social Care Access Centre
768055 Community Equipment Enquiry Service
768058 WCC Social Care Community Meals Team

I wonder if these are "professional" (non-public) numbers.
