Vodafone Cut Cost Of Some Non Geo Contract Calls.
Sep 2nd, 2011 at 6:58pm

See: http://www.vodafone.co.uk/personal/price-plans/pay-monthly/price-changes/?cid=rd... for details.

They are also increasing line rental for some customers.

"From 11 October 2011 we're simplifying our existing line rental prices. These changes will affect pay monthly customers (including mobile broadband users) who joined before February 2011. The average rise is less than 1% and prices are being rounded up to the nearest 50p. For example, if you currently pay £20.42 each month, your monthly line rental will be £20.50."

Hi!

This is a back door method of a price increase for line rental and the cost of phoning freephone and no geographic numbers.  Why should mobile users be tarred with the same brush, if they find the geo numbers or even if they are only freephone numbers are available?  If mobile users want to use companies such as QX telecom to access and phone 0800 prefix numbers, then they should be given the current line rental charge and not be charged the new rate.

This is a significant move - a reduction from 35pppm to 14ppm, with a short term special offer.

It does not cover 0844/3 nor PAYG tariffs. It places the cost of calling 0845 numbers into the same general price band as calls from Virgin Media landlines (the same for a 3 minute call, cheaper for shorter, a little more expensive for longer).

One option being considered by Ofcom is that of a maximum price (rather than the unbundled tariff). I wonder if this is how Vodafone wishes / expects things to go!

The need to reduce the premium charges (for those for whom calls to 01/02/03 numbers are inclusive) highlights the impropriety of any service charge whatsoever being levied on these calls.
