BT Go Into Partnership With EE .
Oct 10th, 2013 at 9:48pm

"EE has replaced Vodafone as BT’s MVNO provider as the companies sign a ‘multi-year deal’.

BT and Vodafone’s MVNO association goes back to 2004, but after the third largest operator acquired Cable and Wireless Worldwide it reportedly decided against continuing the relationship. O2 had been widely seen as the favourite for the contract but EE emerged this morning as the surprise winner. BT is expected to launch consumer, business and 4G offers to customers when it goes live at a later date.

A BT spokesperson said: ‘We are excited about this partnership with EE as it will give us lots of options both in the business and consumer markets. BT already operates the UK’s largest WiFi network with more than 5m hotspots and we are keen to build on that platform. Broadband speeds are improving all the time with fibre and 4G and we want our customers to enjoy the fastest speeds possible, whether they are in the home, office or out and about."

BT customers will be able to access EE's 4G services under its MVNO deal with EE, which was formally sealed today.

"In the agreement EE provides MVNO services to BT’s customers and employees in the UK. The deal was first revealed in October last year. It saw EE replace Vodafone as BT’s MVNO partner. Vodafone is understood to have stepped back from the MVNO relationship with BT after acquiring Cable and Wireless Worldwide.

BT said it is keen to target both business customers and consumers and build on its Wi-Fi presence under the new MVNO deal with EE.

In a statement the telecoms giant said: ‘BT will carefully manage the change from its current UK MVNO provider to EE to ensure a seamless transition for customers.

‘As part of the agreement, BT mobile customers will be able to access 2G, 3G and 4G services."
