Home Office Asking Immigrants To Call 0844 Number.
Oct 19th, 2013 at 2:28am

Home Office Text certain immigrants who may not have leave to remain in UK.

The text message reads: "Message from the Home Office. Our records show that you may not have leave to remain in the UK. Please contact us on 0844 3754636 to discuss your case.

See: http://www.standard.co.uk/panewsfeeds/complaints-over-texts-to-immigrants-888969...

Wonder whose bright idea it was to use an 0844 number.

Another one for Margaret Hodge to sink her teeth into I reckon.

I've emailed her.

The Public Accounts Committee has not yet completed its report into the issues raised by the NAO report.

There is no formal call for evidence, but any citizen is free to make submissions to the committee at pubaccom@parliament.uk. There is no reason why such a formal submission should not be copied to members of the Committee (including the Chair), although their published email addresses are normally used for contact from constituents. It is a courtesy for a submission from an individual to be copied to their own MP.

Ongoing work on this matter is being undertaken by a Cabinet Office "expert group". The fair telecoms campaign is in contact with this group and will be pleased to pass on comments.

So are you going to pass on these comments?

I suggest you ask them to ask the Home Office and Cabinet Office if they really expect illegal immigrants to call a premium rate number in order to help get themselves deported?

Sadly the only people likely to be calling this number are those who were incorrectly identified. So not only are innocent people likely to be frightened and upset, but they then get ripped off for their troubles.

If you are illegal you are hardly likely to respond.
