Ofcom .Porting Contact Numbers.

You would think in this day and age they would encourage suppliers to offer mobile friendly contact numbers, instead of non geographical ones.

Personally I think they should be made to have mobile friendly numbers for ALL the networks for these purposes...

What a shock that 3 is the biggest culprit in having an non-inclusive NGN....

Sad

I think those numbers may be out of date.

I believe o2 and three that I know off that use 0844 as general customer services contact number for those that can't get it included in inclusive calls

O2 and 3 have short codes you can call as do others if your ringing from those networks. But not a lot of use when calling from another network.

The numbers shown on the list are still in use,and my point is  surely Ofcom should by now be encouraging networks to give out mobile friendly numbers,so you can contact them from any network.

Talking of out of date O2 still claim that 0870 is charged at national rate.

In theory they should but I don't believe Ofcom ever will.

The Consumer Contract Regulations (CCR) should means that numbers which carry a Service Charge will no longer be allowed for purposes such as this. However, mobile numbers are permitted, and as these are mobile operators it is, unfortunately, all too easy for them to provide such numbers, which I believe that they all do. Of course, with the reduction in termination charges they are deriving less and less from the calls.

I have just had a double check and:

Three, O2 (Pay and Go), EE and Orange (yes they are both part of EE themselves) and Vodafone do have Mobile numbers to contact them on, you just have to dig around on their website to find them.

Thats all very well but A you have yo find them and B they say they are to be used for calling from abroad. If you were looking at Ofcom site i doubt if many would seek alternatives.

bigjohn,

Agreed, however this is Ofcom we are talking about, I am sadly sure that getting a geographic rate or mobile rate number from ALL the Mobile operators that can be called for Porting or other enquiries when the user does NOT have access to the operators own network is the least of their priorities...

However it is for others who use this forum.
