I have recently started receiving promotional text messages with just a company name and no reply number. So far these have been from companies with whom I have had a legitimate relationship (e.g. car dealers), but have never consented to receiving marketing messages. The messages do have a number in the body, but it costs time and money to ring them to stop it. Apparently these are computer generated. The ICO tells me this is legal so long as a reply number is contained in the body - the cost and aggro to me seems not to be an issue which interests them. There is obviously some new software out there and I'm fearing a flood of this stuff. I can't block these on my Samsung, as there is no number from which they come, and the Call Blocker app on android seems ineffective too. Anybody know anything about this new scourge and how to block it?
