The following is printed on a Salvation Army charity bag, is it legal? I thought the Service Charge was the ppm!

Hi derek,

when you say Charity bag is it one of those "door collection" ones?

Just that I looked on Salvation Army and noticed this:
Door-to-door Collections

To report a missed collection or if you require any help regarding the national Clothing Collection scheme, please contact the helpdesk

Email: helpline@satcol.org

Telephone: 0845 458 1812

Please note there is an answer service available out of office hours; leave a message and we will respond to your query as soon as possible.

No call charge info on their site at all... also the domain satcol.org has no webpage...  Huh

0845 458 is an SC004 number.. which is charged at 3p per minute plus the access charge.

Whoever put that wording on the bag appears to have been completely confused when they did it.

It should say "Calls cost Xp per minute [Service Charge] plus your phone providers Access Charge."

... where the Service Charge "X" can be looked up at http://checkit.uboss.com/

The Access Charge is up to 12p per minute from landlines or up to 45p per minute from mobiles.

It would be interesting to compare the current text with whatever was previously printed on the bags a year or two ago.

My guess is that it used to say "Calls cost 5.5p per minute plus a Xp connection fee from a BT landline. Other providers and mobiles may charge more", quoting BT's non-inclusive call price from many years ago.

The new wording is probably a badly edited change made by someone who had no idea what they were doing.

Yes it is a door collection bag.

When using the web address on the bag: http://www.salvationarmytrading.org/contact it gives these phone numbers: Tel: 01933 441 807  Fax: 01933 445 449.

Me thinks this is not THE Salvation Army
